Yevgeny Prigozhin on Wednesday accused a Russian brigade of abandoning its position in front-line Bakhmut, allowing Ukraine to seize territory. He has repeatedly accused the defense ministry of failing to give his forces the supplies they need.

“Despite a significant concentration of troops and loud statements by Russian war criminals about their intentions to take Bakhmut by May 9, the enemy failed to capture the Ukrainian city. Googling doesnt shed any light on the T34/85 in the parade about whether its a specific one each time or has any notable history. It seems unlikely its specifically notable though, given that apparently Russia is short enough of them that they supposedly bought about 30 of them from Laos and Vietnam to increase their stock for parades and museums etc, and outside experts arent even sure exactly where the parade tank was originally built.

Yesterday Ukraine claimed to have downed all Kinzhal missiles involved in an attack on Kyiv:

The six Kinzhals — ballistic missiles that travel at up to 10 times the speed of sound — were among a volley of 18 missiles Russia fired at Ukraine overnight, lighting up Kyiv with flashes and raining debris after they were blasted from the sky.

It was not clear which Western weapon Ukraine used to defeat the Kinzhals. The Pentagon had no immediate comment.

Russia's defence ministry said it had destroyed a U.S.-built Patriot surface-to-air missile defence system with a Kinzhal missile, the Zvezda military news outlet reported.

But the commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi said all of the Kinzhals had been successfully intercepted.

Zaluzhnyi said his forces had intercepted the six Kinzhals launched from aircraft, as well as nine Kalibr cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea and three Iskanders fired from land.

Obviously, one must decide if the Ukrainian military can be believed in saying all the missiles were intercepted without an independent source corroborating. But if it's true, it's a demonstration that current Western technology can completely neutralize a coordinated, multi-source Russian nuclear strike. Something for the Russians to keep in mind every time they stamp their feet and demand respect.

Major dam 'blown up' in Russian-controlled Kherson region in Southern Ukraine

The southern command of Ukraine's Armed Forces said on Tuesday that the Kakhovka dam in the Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine's Kherson region was blown up by Russian forces.

"The scale of the destruction, the speed and volumes of water, and the likely areas of inundation are being clarified," the command said on its Facebook page.

Russia's TASS agency confirmed that the dam collapsed and the nearby territories were flooding.

Unverified videos shared on the messaging app Telegram appear to show an explosion of the dam and water pouring from it.

What is the Kakhovka dam, and what impact does blowing it up have?

The dam, 30 metres tall and 3.2 km long, was built in 1956 on the Dnipro river as part of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.

The reservoir also supplies water to the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, and to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which is also under Russian control.

The volume of water in the reservoir is about equal to the Great Salt Lake in the U.S. state of Utah.

Blowing the Soviet-era dam, which is controlled by Russia, would unleash a wall of floodwater across much of the Kherson region.

I think this is the dam that Ukraine said they suspected was wired up with charges months ago. Russia has likely been planning this for awhile. Also there is a nuke plant on that lake so let’s hope this does not impact its intake capacity for cooling water
