Great comic actor and underrated in other roles such as this one:

Shit! This guy was one of my favorites to watch. He and Pryor had such great chemistry together as well, Silver Streak and Stir Crazy are classics, although Young Frankenstein is my favorite of his.

    Very sad.

Many brilliant performances. I wonder how many kids only recognize him by one of the most popular "create your own" meme's going around, heh.

Don't the Mel Brooks classics still get replayed on TV a lot? Or do they?

I have rarely seen them as much as I used to. They used to be a staple of weekend afternoons on basic cable.

Blazing saddles seems to be on fairly often, but other than that, you don't see much of those old Mel Brooks movies.

Silver Streak has been on cable the past couple of weeks.

Gene Wilder was a true genius, he will be missed

Loved Wilder's insane rants, put upon hysterical humour, and humanity
    Guy was pure class

Here's a glass raised for Edward Albee, a genius of American (and world) theater:

If you've never seen Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, you should. But if you're single when you do see it, you may never want to marry.

I wasn't sure which thread should get this one: W.P. Kinsella, author of the book that was turned into Field of Dreams, of a doctor-assisted death, at 81:

I went to a conference when I was young where he read to the crowd. It's sad that a car accident ended his productive years prematurely.

‘Sound of Music’ actress Charmian Carr dies at 73

LOS ANGELES — Charmian Carr, the actress best known for sweetly portraying the eldest von Trapp daughter in Rogers & Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” has died. She was 73.

Carr died Saturday of complications from a rare form of dementia in Los Angeles, Carr’s spokesman, Harlan Boll, said.

At age 21, the actress portrayed Liesl von Trapp in the 1965 film version of the musical “The Sound of Music.” She famously performed the song “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.”

I read 'Shoeless Joe' and loved it. I love baseball history, and this book had plenty of that plus. Also, the movie did follow it fairly well, but obviously there was more nuance in the book.

I'm slightly surprised that some popular news sites aren't playing Arnold Palmer more significantly. He was the first real household name in golf, the first figure in any sport to reach stratospheric levels for endorsements. And any bartender worth anything can make his drink:

My favorite beverage. That is an amazing something to have a namesake recognized while still alive.
