Gene Wilder, 83, complications from Alzheimer's.
:(
Great comic actor and underrated in other roles such as this one:

Shit! This guy was one of my favorites to watch. He and Pryor had such great chemistry together as well, Silver Streak and Stir Crazy are classics, although Young Frankenstein is my favorite of his.
I have rarely seen them as much as I used to. They used to be a staple of weekend afternoons on basic cable.
Blazing saddles seems to be on fairly often, but other than that, you don't see much of those old Mel Brooks movies.
Silver Streak has been on cable the past couple of weeks.
Gene Wilder was a true genius, he will be missed :(
Loved Wilder's insane rants, put upon hysterical humour, and humanity
Guy was pure class :)
Here's a glass raised for Edward Albee, a genius of American (and world) theater:

I wasn't sure which thread should get this one: W.P. Kinsella, author of the book that was turned into Field of Dreams, of a doctor-assisted death, at 81:

I went to a conference when I was young where he read to the crowd. It's sad that a car accident ended his productive years prematurely.
‘Sound of Music’ actress Charmian Carr dies at 73
Quote:
LOS ANGELES — Charmian Carr, the actress best known for sweetly portraying the eldest von Trapp daughter in Rogers & Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” has died. She was 73.
Carr died Saturday of complications from a rare form of dementia in Los Angeles, Carr’s spokesman, Harlan Boll, said.
At age 21, the actress portrayed Liesl von Trapp in the 1965 film version of the musical “The Sound of Music.” She famously performed the song “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.”

US golf legend Arnold Palmer dies at 87 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-37469392
I'm slightly surprised that some popular news sites aren't playing Arnold Palmer more significantly. He was the first real household name in golf, the first figure in any sport to reach stratospheric levels for endorsements. And any bartender worth anything can make his drink:

Preacher Co-Creator Steve Dillon Dead at 54
Quote:
Fan-favorite artist Steve Dillon—best known for co-creating Preacher and defining runs on The Punisher and Hellblazer—has passed away.
Reports of Dillon’s death began hitting Twitter this morning, with confirmation coming from Dillon’s brother Glynis. Details as to the cause of death are yet unknown.
Born in Luton, Bedfordshire, England in 1962, Dillon’s early career began in the British comics industry, with stints in the legendary 2000 A.D. comics magazine. Writer Garth Ennis and Dillon were one of modern comics’ most beloved tandems, having first made a big splash in American comics with their work on John Constantine in Hellblazer for DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint and later co-creating Preacher in 1995. Ennis and Dillon went on to deliver what many say is the best-ever take on The Punisher in the mid-2000s. Dillon’s most recent work has been on an ongoing Punisher series with writer Becky Cloonan. io9 mourns the loss of this amazing talent.
Suck.
Hellblazer and Preacher are amongst my top ten favorite comic lines. I bought every episode of each show as soon as they were made available.
I even own the TPB's for "Books of Magic" where Constantine shows up with Tim Hunter.
This is a great loss to the creative world.

Everybody Knows
Loved how Robert Vaughn was in a show for the BBC not so long ago :)
con man capers type of thing, was pretty good
again, an old school actor who had an interesting face and a gorgeous voice, just make very very few like that any more (Idris Elba comes to mind)
Looks like Ron Howard's brother, Clint
Yep, pretty sure that is Clint Howard.
In today's news Leon Russell dies at 74. Very talented musician and songwriter, with an interesting voice. My favorite song of his is still Tight Rope.
Cause of death is out for Leonard Cohen: he fell during the night, then died in his sleep:

¿Cuba libre finalmente?
Bad guy in many ways, but also replaced a bad guy. And in contrast to how they felt about the previous guy, a plurality of Cubans apparently didn't think Castro was bad enough to throw out.
They just appreciated his love of cheese HTTPS://youtu.be/DF-yBAkLFfw
One more notch on Obama's belt: Castro didn't outlast him.
Damn grim reaper must work for Fox and killed off book for real.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
That seriously sucks.
Why do we keep losing people that are truly nice to everyone?
I vote for 2017 to be "the year the asshats die off en masse".
I was thinking 2013 wasn't too bad for deaths because we lost a handful of actual nazi war criminals (including hitler's bodyguard) and the cast-iron bitchlady herself, but then I discovered we also lost James Gandolfini, Lou Reed, Nelson Mandela, Peter O'Toole, and Tom Clancy that year.
It seems like every year we lose more people that I like than people I don't.
Weaksauce.
This does seem to be a particularly bad year.
But in my experience, assholes seem to always live past their expiration date :(
Yeah, that's really annoying.
Next thing you know, we lose Mandy Patinkin or John Doman or some other quality character actor.
I've always said I wanted to live as long as I could to see how far technology can go, but it's really disheartening losing so many great influences from my youth.
Seeing the ass end of Maggie Thatcher was a very cheerful thing !
As Frankie Boyle said, instead of wasting millions on state funeral for this bitch, they could have bought everyone in Scotland a spade, and we'd have all dug down and handed the bitch to her master in person :p
Patinkin is safe - he's already a Grim Reaper.
Creator Of McDonald's Big Mac Dies At 98
Quote:
An obituary put out by his family notes that Delligatti was a true innovator in the fast-food industry, instrumental in introducing breakfast at McDonald's, making the hotcakes and sausage meals for hungry millworkers on their way home from overnight shifts in the steel mills.
Delligatti co-founded Pittsburgh's Ronald McDonald House and supported many other charities in Western Pennsylvania. He also served in the Army in World War II.
"Jim was a legendary franchisee within McDonald's system who made a lasting impression on our brand," reads a statement from McDonald's corporate headquarters. "He is an exemplary individual who embraced the community and championed many causes and organizations that benefitted children. We will remember Jim as an insightful franchisee, a knowledgeable businessman, and an honorable gentleman."
His English was very good, he learned it from a book: Andrew Sachs, Manuel on Fawlty Towers, age 86.

I thought the next astronaut to go would be Buzz Aldrin after that Antarctic evacuation thing. John Glenn's heart problems are back? :(

Asheron's Call pulls the plug on january 31st. Part of Time warner's property wipe.
It's not going to kill Everquest. :(
I know of a couple people who said they were still playing, so yes.
Daybreak's just the publisher. They do DCUO as well, and do a good job there.
The real story in this one is that Turbine was going to SHUT DOWN LotR:O and DDO under WB's orders.
So the developers and staff formed their own company (Standing Stone Games), raised capital, and BOUGHT the games from Turbine, otherwise they'd be on the heap with AC.
Sure, the population on all LotR:O servers combined is just under 100,000, which is not a ton, (The old community manager posted a TON of numbers the day he walked on the job) but it's certainly not "This Game Is Dead" numbers, either.
Since the server merger went through, the server I'm on (Landroval) is CONSTANTLY bustling with activity. I even had a day off recently and mid-day, middle of the week, world chat was still scrolling by almost too fast to read.
Another one for predictions?

2016, the year that just keeps on taking.
She's reported to be in critical condition:
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...223-story.html
I've had friends, some far older than her, survive MULTIPLE heart attacks that put them in critical condition and they ended up being fine for years afterwards.
Medical science is thankfully getting pretty good at this.
I think the important factor is getting the proper treatment in a timely fashion. Hopefully, the medics on board were able to provide that treatment before the plane was able to land and she got to the hospital.

says shes out of the ER, I guess that EMT on the plane did a pretty darn good job then considering its the initial moments that id imagine are critical.
One report claims she's on a ventilator.
