Comedian John Pinette, 50, dies at Pa. hotel
Quote:
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Chubby stand-up comedian and hapless carjacking victim from the final episode of "Seinfeld," John Pinette has died. He was 50.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office says Pinette died at a Pittsburgh hotel on Saturday.
Pinette appeared in movies including "The Punisher" and had a trio of stand-up shows released on DVD but was perhaps best known as the portly carjacking victim whose plight lands the "Seinfeld" stars before a judge for failing to help under a "good Samaritan" law.
Agent Nick Nuciforo says Pinette had been working on another stand-up project when he died.
The medical examiner's office says Pinette's death was from natural causes.
Ah, that sucks about Pinette. Funny man.
The buffet owners around the world are very, very relieved.
McDonalds lost its employee of the century.
Dunno about the McD thing, but the buffet thing was one of Pinette's bits.
The McDonald's comment was a part of his bit on people waiting until they are at the front of the line before deciding on what they want to order.

He'll take control of the cockpit on the plane to the underworld, crash it into Hades' throne and rule forever with the gods at his sides.

Young Ones prove that someone at the BBC were willing to take a risk on four VERY odd characters. And won bigtime. It's still awesome today :grinyes:
Yeah, the fringe stuff is often great :)
Alas the stuffy pervert supporting elitists wankers who run it from on high stifle anything they can their pathetic claws in, Young Ones was on BBC2 which got less of the bosses attention, hence good ;)
example in past few years of management RUINING something was remake of "The Survivors" series (set after a plague wipes out much of Humanity, original 70s one was awesome and creepy/gnarly as hell) and a scifi tale of Humans having ot settle another star sytem as fallout form war triggered by climate change etc made Earth uninhabitable
they made them so horribly "Middle England Middle Class" it was pathetic and they were failures, ick.
Boring schmaltz, as tense as a wet towel etc
Horrible waste compared to many of the great efforts the Beeb has put out over the years, such as "Old men at the Zoo", The Edge of Darkness etc
watch the original BBC version of "Edge of Darkness", freakin' awesome.
(note, lot of great scifi and other material did come from Middle Class England, I'm referring to an odd, stodgy outlook/social strata etc.)
Aw. The original cougar was the last Golden Girl still around.

She's even in a new TV series.
Rue died some time ago, didn't she? Googlesezyes.
Ah yeah, I guess I had forgotten she died. My apologies, I stand corrected.
Just another reminder that I am always, always right.
Just heard about this a few minutes ago.
I didn't realize he was only 82. I was guessing 94.
He was a fixture of sunday afternoons during my childhood.
I may not have liked most of the music he played, being that it was top 40 hits, but he had a GREAT radio voice.
Supposedly there was a hoax involving Jeremy Clarkson over the weekend. Don't know the details, but something between a gag of his and Piers Morgan.
Will look it up later, unless someone beats me to it.
Tony Gwynn, Hall of Fame Baseball player dead at 54.

My guess is Stuart Scott. Something about his speech last night at the Espys makes me think he isn't doing well.

That's the first thing I thought. Not only did that sound a lot like a good bye, it sounded a lot like he doesn't have much time left. I wasn't even aware he had cancer but that explains why the last few times I saw him on TV he didn't look very well. It's sad to see anyone go so early due to cancer.
RIP, Johnny Winter, the greatest albino blues guitarist ever:

James Garner, 86

Crap, really liked James Garner :(
My mechanic uncle was *so* like him in looks, laid back humour and charm.
Never missed the Rockford Files, and then watched it more in syndication. James Garner was awesome! R.I.P.
RIP Thomas Berger, who wasn't as widely read as some of his contemporaries, but worthy to stand among any of them. I've had a soft spot for Little Big Man since reading it for school way back when. Like Lonesome Dove, Little Big Man is a great Western for people who don't normally read the genre; I suspect many people on this board would enjoy it.

89 to a stroke.
I've always been a big fan of Lauren Bacall, she was a fantastic actress.
When Charon came calling, I wonder if he put his lips together and blew.

well he was 90, But still not a good month for Hollywood.Quote:
British actor and film director Richard Attenborough has died at the age of 90.
He died at lunchtime on Sunday, his son told BBC News.
Lord Attenborough was one of Britain's leading actors, before becoming a highly successful director.
He appeared in films including Brighton Rock, World War Two thriller The Great Escape and later in dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic Park.
Wow. Giants falling in droves. The Oscars will have to be extended for an hour next year, just to fit in all of the "In the memory of" pieces.
Another one of those people I thought would always be there...
No, they'll just snip out any of the "lessers" from the list, like they do every year.Quote:

R.I.P. Joan Rivers
If you haven't already, I highly recommend watching the Joan Rivers documentary on Netflix.
She was one amazing lady, and there is going to be a humungous divet in the world without her.
Again, watch the documentary.

Wow turn in my gay card but I love Bianca and haven't seen that yet!
I'm calling a reverse death pool.
Andy Kaufman, within the next 12 months it'll be revealed that he faked his death and is actually still alive.
Is that based on anything other than a hunch?
Was it lung cancer he had? I thought it was pancreatic.
Well, crap... another SNL alum is taken away from the world. Jan Hooks died after a lengthy illness.

I really liked her. She was a talented member of the cast during some of the show's best seasons.
Elizabeth Pena, from La Bamba, *Batteries Not Included, and Modern Family. 55, no details.
I liked her in the few things I remember seeing her in.
I liked her best in something where she wasn't even seen: as the voice of Mirage in "The Incredibles". Danenel, she apparently did the voice work in Disney Infinity for Mirage. Did you have any contact with the voice work stuff?
My dad gave me Batteries Not Included when I was pretty young, I watched that VHS so many times I am surprised I didn't wear it out. Still have it actually... just no VHS player.
I remember her from Jacob's Ladder... very strange movie, but she was great in it.
Kinda sad to see these people that are within just a few years of my age dying :(
She was very cute and fun to watch as an actress. Way too young.
For my next pick: Ben Bradlee

Jack Bruce, Cream bassist :(
In his memory:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hftgytmgQgE
That Ginger Baker survived him must be due to Keith Richards-like soaking of his DNA in every drug available :grinyes:
Cream, for me anyway, is one of the greatest bands ever, but hardly remembered by anyone. Swlabr is one of my favorite Cream songs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42uhlJvQpgc
Just about any kid who picks up a guitar/bass discovers Cream. It's one of those "Ooooh, so THAT'S where that song is from..."-moments :grinyes:
My father (in his early 70's) listens almost exclusively to music from the 50's and 60's. When in the car with him yesterday, he was listening to Sirius 60's, so I asked him if they had been playing more Cream songs that day because of the death. He had no idea who Cream was, even when I brought up Sunshine of Your Love and White Room. Obviously one data point doesn't disprove the statement (and the fact that I knew who Cream was lends support to it), but seeing someone who is such a fan of the music of the era not remember them at all makes me doubt that they're well-known.Quote:

I'd probably go so far as to say that the youngins who are just discovering the Eric Clapton unplugged albums are not far off from discovering Cream. They're just a hop, skip and a jump away from each other.
-- There was a time shortly after Stairway to Heaven was no longer heard at Guitar Center on the hour every hour, that Tears in Heaven made its circulation. Shortly after that, Stairway to Heaven made its way back into the Guitar Center test drive. Its been a while since I've been into a Guitar Center at all, but I'm sure Tears has made its way back in again.
Cream doesn't the same notoriety as the Beatles or Rolling Stones, but trust me ... they were well known.
Badge, Crossroads and Strangebrew - all good songs.
Acker Bilk has died :(
grew up with this tune, one of mum's faves, and it's still awesome.
