The oversaturation of sports talk radio serving up hosts who go on endless tirades on completely insignificant points that maybe 4 people in the world actually care about just to have something different to discuss for 12 minutes.
1) Many Euro fans hate Armstrong because he was an American who won too much for their tastes.Originally Posted by Ralan
2) Antidrug Nazis hate Armstrong because they think he cheated.
3) a) Greg LeMond hates Armstrong supposedly because Armstrong threatened to strongarm him for daring to suggest that he takes performance enhancing drugs; b) others think LeMond hates Armstrong out of jealousy.
4) Filippo Simeoni hates Armstrong because Armstrong called him a liar and subsequently brought down patron muscle on him in Stage 18 of the 2004 Tour De France.
5) a) The late Marco Pantani hated Armstrong because he felt Armstrong insulted him during the 2000 Tour De France; b) Pantani also suggested that Armstrong whored his cancer survival as a form of self-promotion.
I tend to sympathize with 3a, 4 and 5b.

In this vein, I'd say the dumbest thing in sports is Colin Cowherd. Although Dwight Gooden ranks right up there too.Originally Posted by Faustus

In this vein, I'd completely agree. How he's still on the air is beyond me. Not that I've listened to him much since about a week after Kornheiser left.Originally Posted by Grindel
Hard to argue with that one. Off the top of my head, can't think of a bigger disconnect between potential and self-destruction, although Steve Howe ain't that far off.Originally Posted by MLB13

For what it's worth, I think he'd have given Jordan a true rival had he lived to play for the Celtics. In collge he often seemed godlike even among other highly talented players who themselves went on to have very good NBA careers.
well, Mike Tyson fits in with those folks I'd say.
Interesting how naturally we think of Strawberry when we think about Gooden and vice-versa. Strawberry is who I thought about first but I didn't want to mis-spell Daryl![]()

When Michael Jordan decided to play for the Wizards, that was dumb. But it was even dumber when he took Kwame Brown.
Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.
As far as I know, he did drugs once and died. That's not self-destruction, that's bad luck.Originally Posted by Faustus
Sports talk radio. My best example is, during the call-in show after a Canucks game, a caller asked what had happened to the Grizzlies. This was several years after they'd left town.
I was thinking Strawberry and Gooden, but it's good to see that people beat me to it. Obvious ones. I'm surpised Ricky Williams hasn't gotten his tokin mention yet.
I'll have to say the "extra time" clock in soccer. Never understood the sense in that one.
Fucking Bill Walton. "That was a teeerible call. He's teeerible. That was teeerible."
It's kind of funny, sometimes you get the sense that the other commentators would put their fist down his throat if they had the chance.Originally Posted by Daxil Solshok
