55% of Scots voted to remain as part of the UK. The 45% did not splinter off into an independent nation. If anywhere close to a similar number wanted to rejoin Russia then Ukraine would not have been able to resist for two years, support from the West or not. Nothing we can do can make them fight this hard. They are clearly doing it because the majority values independence. And they have said as much many times.

I've also seen no evidence that a majority of even the small isolated regions wanted to join Russia before the invasion. And I'm certainly not impressed by the Russian sham elections that happened later. What a joke.
