I liked Ogden Stiers when he was on Stargate: Atlantis. Looking at his IMDb, he did a lot of voice work, including as the narrator for Icewind Dale. Solid geeks creds.

yeah, as I keep saying I love a lot of the older generation actors because they had such beautifully rich, interesting voices
may sound odd, but like the older generations more lived in experienced faces being intensely interesting for an artist, many of the older actors came from the theatre, where voice and expressive ability was far more important than looks

Icewind Dale, ah, now it clicks!

don't suppose many of the Americans knew about Ken Dodd, comedian, but he was indeed, a laugh riot, and extremely popular over here

76 years he got on this earth.

He got ALS at the age of 21, and the doctors gave him two years to live. Crazy.

Very sad. The $400 million per year in debt servicing charges that Bain Capital saddled them with didn't help. Toys R Us UK is also going down, although Toys R Us Canada says it's operating as normal and there's a California toy company that wants to buy the Canadian operations.

What is debt servicing? Is that interest or just another name for bullshit fees

Yes, basically. In the case of companies, it can be either interest on a line of credit to a bank or the yield on corporate bonds issued.

But don't worry, not everyone at Toys R Us will suffer:

It's the annual payments you have to make on principal and interest. It's the payments you have to make to "service" the debt.

Or put another way, it's the corporate equivalent of the minimum payments on a personal credit card.

I am not surprised execs still get their bonus. That is how America works unfortunately, personally I think taking a company to chapter 11 should result in no bonus. But hey they gotta get that new gulfstream

Well, kinda. Credit card minimum is almost all interest. That's why it takes 30 years to pay off a credit card if all you pay is the minimum, because the minimum payment drops as you pay the card down.

Debt Servicing is usually scheduled so you pay close to the same amount every year, and over time the interest portion of the payment shrinks (as the balance drops) and the principal portion grows

They didn't even take it to Chapter 11 -- this is going to Chapter 7. I think that means their bonus is a mere $9 million rather than $14 million, if the news story is correct.
