Re: The "What Are You Playing Now?" Thread

80 hours later, having finally beaten Persona 3 on hard, I've decided to take a break before playing the expansion. The last boss was ridiculous. I felt like I was raiding WoW. It was probably one of my favorite RPGS ever though and I'm glad JPRGS can still be good.

I also beat GTA last week. Great game, but they're were obviously rushing towards the end. The "choice" at the end pissed me off too.

Now I'm playing God Hand and Viva Pinata with some CoD4 multi on the side.

My computer plays TF2 smooth as silk, but it still takes multiple minutes to load a game. :/

Probably about a minute from clicking on TF2 in Steam before I get to the game menu, and then probably about a minute before the menu loads (so that I can actually click "Find Servers" or whatever), then probably 2 minutes from the time I choose a server before I'm in-game. I have no idea why it takes so long, but it's pretty annoying.

If you're willing to give it another try, I've heard that changing the field of view can help. Or at least, I've heard that it can help with Half-Life 2, and I imagine the two could be similar.

I don't think they are. The goofy field of view in HL2 is the only game that's ever made me sick (and it does so VERY quickly), but TF2 has the right FOV and if it makes you sick, it's likely for different reasons.

IIRC to fix HL2, you got to the console and type fov 90. You could try it with TF2 I suppose though I think it already is 90.

Really? Mine takes a bit to load, but it's nowhere near as long as what you're saying. The most I have to wait it like a minute to launch the game. That's not to say it isn't an annoyance though. I always love when I've been waiting for an hour to join the server I want to play on, only to have it tell me the server is full again once it loads the game and starts connecting me. I had that happen tonight. I've just gotta learn to keep the game open if I want to do autojoin.

Google's telling me that the default FoV for both is set to 75 (I just checked and that is the case with TF2). "fov_desired 90" in the console will change it, though.

I just timed it. It took me a minute and a half to launch the game, another minute to load the menu, and just under 2 minutes to join a server. Sometimes it feels faster, but I don't see why it takes nearly that long to begin with. :/

EDIT - I removed "-console" from my launch options, and suddenly I loaded the game from initial click -> joined server in 1:40 minutes. Not sure how, why, or if it will stay that way, though. Still longer than I'd like, but beats 3+ minutes.

I found a slider option in the Options panel for TF2... I'll try that tonight since I have no other plans. (10 minutes of play = 3 hours of nausea)

I wonder if WoW has the same or similar settings? Cuz WoW makes me sick too.

    Finiel,
    nope, actually
    1) there's always RELOAD, lol
    2) I've played it before so know what to expect, roughly
    3) Dwarf rogue/fighter, elf cleric is a great combo.
    4) Use tactics Dwarf fighter/rogue has sneak attack AND improved critical, hehe
    5) Only two guys so they get to wear the best treasures, no splitting with the party!

just gets hairier on the bits with lot of enemies, or the bastard wraiths/spectres who're way overpowered versus your characters.

So I've used things like staff of Flamestike, Ring of COne of Cold etc a lot.
What's bad htough is the game starts you at level 1, FFS!! I hate that, and the orogs have stupidly high ACs, liek AC 26 etc.

While WoW is my game of choice, and I play it more than anything else, I'm having alot of fun with Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. Very well done horror game.

I sometimes envy you guys for this.

These days I just cant bear to do the post max level thing. I play through new content, max my level and then quit. Almost as if MMO's were single player games, lol.

I feel like there's always something to do or look foward to in WoW. The fact that I'm still enjoying it after 3+ years of playing is pretty impressive to me though. It's the only game I'm playing on the PC nowadays.

My wife feels the same way. I don't hate it at all. In fact I think it is "best in class" without a doubt. But there is something about the level 70 game that makes me look for reasons / excuses not to play. I start inviting people over so I can cook for them and do other things just so I don't have to log in. EQ2 was the same way after the shine of the latest expansion wore off (and the story abruptly ended at level 22 or so). I realize its a personal thing; a thing I lack, more then a thing the game lacks. If I ever return to WoW it will be to level up Barcha from 51 to 70. I have yet to do any of the higher end Alliance quests. I can't imagine ever wanting to play another horde character after leveling so many, and being so disappointed with the pvp.

I know what you mean. I wouldn't say it's something lacking in you. You just got burned out on MMO's. I felt the same way about Everquest near the end of my gaming time there. If you ever do decide to come back to WoW, look me up in game and I'll be happy to help.

There will definitely be plenty to do once Wrath of the Lich King comes out.

I played a half hour of TF2 last night after sliding the FoV slider to 90, and except for maybe ten seconds of twinge, I felt decent.

I did some digging on WoW as far as finding the way to change the field of view in-game however was only able to come up with a way to enable the in-game console, as well as a list of commands, but not a way to set it.
So I tried something like "set fov 90" and it said something like "writing COpt" but even after logging out then back in there was no appreciable difference in the camera view... but I didn't stay online long enough to test it. Was too tired after playing TF2 for a half hour painlessly

My copy of Race Driver: GRID came in today and I'm enjoying it a lot.

If you like racing games at all, you have to give this one a try.

I just finished up The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. What a fantastic game for Zelda fans. If you loved Ocarina of Time - you're going to lose your mind for Twilight Princess. Everything good from Ocarina, but with improvements and more fun on top of it. Can't say enough good things about this game. Can't believe I waited so long to try it out. Stop playing whatever crap you're playing now, and go get this game

    Now playing:

    Lord of the Rings Online
MVP 2005 (modded heavily to be current)
Out of the Park Baseball 9
    Tennis Masters Series 2003
    Sims 2
    Hellgate: London

And, I guess, WoW, if you count having a subscription as playing.
