A hobby for Ninetoes? :) engraving a hammer

ok too small for Mjolnir but, scale it up?

    When the Old Guard dies,
The cowards in the shadow rise,
Their vile plots of cowardice and greed,
Poison the land and nightmares arise,
To terrorize and murder the common man.

(and as usual, please forgive typos and crankiness if possible)

There's a show on the History Channel called "Forged in Fire" where smiths compete to first make knives which get tested for performance. The final two competitors get 5 days to build a historic weapon at home and then return to get them tested.

I love to watch it despite the repetitive format. Seeing them build the weapons and then getting to see them used are just too much geeky fun.

    Wow, very cool!

long long time ago...I made a battle axe out of a stainless steel flywheel I'd found (obviously nicked from local steelworks when they raided it for stuff like nickel ore, platinum points etc and dumped when they were being chased lol)
anyway, took me 2 weeks to cut out the basic shape by hand using hacksaws, went through a hell of a lot of blades, yikes, that was TOUGH metal
inset it with moss quartz crystals
then spent ages carving and insetting tigers eyes into pickshaft handle (for handle) and amethyst in the pommel

I am ridiculously addicted to the show Forged in Fire. They make it look so easy to make a high quality blade in 3 hours. I mean, I could totally do it. Unless you want Damascus Steal. Everyone always fucks that up. On a side note, I would have never known that the sword Excalibur in the most recent King Arthur movie was Damascus Steal until watching Forged in Fire. My guess is the producers of the movie would have never known it existed if it weren't for the show Forged in Fire either.

The wife and I visited Paris last year. I knew she planned to go crazy buying purses, so I had to find a nice souvenir for myself. I researched and found that the French have a signature style pocket knife and located a place that made and sold some very nice examples. This cost me over $700. It has a Damascus blade with carbon fiber handle.
