Will Win 7 OEM install media still work December 2017?

    Hey gang,
I'm looking to grab a laptop for the family.
Hate win 10 with a passion as well as third party cruft.
I see a few OEM Win 7 install media discs for sale.

Does anyone know if the OEM versions are blocked from activation?
I'm asking because I thought that system builders were told they could no longer sell pre built 7's. So I worry that if I buy a media/license pack I would fall into that category.

    Make sense?

Yes, but even the System Builders will still "activate" because people may need to reload the OS after that point, on software they've purchased prior.

I'm guessing it needs to be pre kaby lake intel chip whichever I get, looking to grab an older laptop for wife to use for web and office suite.

Whole point was to wipe the 3rd party junk to a fresh install.
    Thanks again Melc.

Thanks again, picking your brain one last time.

I think i should first activate the default win 10 OEM license that comes with it, as a fallback before I try to nuke it with the older win 7 OEM I have. In case. Right?

Activation doesn't do much for you. I would make sure if to make physical copies of your restore disks (if that's an option) but activation is just a formality that your copy is genuine. It is not registering it to you.

    Update for anyone interested.

Got it done, Win7 OEM on laptop dual booting to Kubuntu, but it was brutal.
Turns out the processor was indeed KabyLake.

This guide and the related links helped a lot.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id...kaby-lake.html

First pain point was realizing I should be using Win10-KabyLake drivers even tho I am going for Win 7.

Biggest pain point was finding an unsigned Intel GFX driver, which apparently NVIDIA uses as a base of operations before it will load its stuff. Without is there was a 6/7 chance of no video on boot into windows. Had to memorize the key sequence to log in and select reboot.

Worst part is going to be dealing with the lack of support from MS for security patches moving forward.
There is a patch to dodge that (https://github.com/zeffy/wufuc) but I am delaying that as long as possible since it is outright cheating MS's TOS.

Thanks again and happy computing all!
