Pretty sure I've seen two millenium falcons at the same time flying around there.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 sales miss targets, EA blames loot crate controversy

But they're still gonna bring back microtransactions and I don't fault them for it. Only way to get players used to it is to keep doing it until it becomes par for the course.

You are just as likely to scare even more of your customers away. To get players used to it you have to be more subtle about it. And that's assuming they don't have other choices they could go to instead, which they do. There is actually some small reason to believe EA's ham-fisted approach has ruined loot boxes for other publishers.

This game should have been an easy win if not for their apparent inability to read the market.

Not if almost everybody else does it too. It's not as if EA is the first one to do this.

There is precedence with F2P mmos, though I'm not sure if a payed game has ever done this before, or this flagrantly. Not sure Konami could do anything to surprise me by this point though.

And he's right about one thing. They could have tried to sneak it in by making each one cost a dollar, but they have three slots that cost $10 each. It's crazy.

Re: EA turns off Battlefront 2 transactions

I thought this bump was going to be about Battlefront 2 itself has removed it's loot box progression system completely, and how that is arguably too late when 2018 is set to be dominated by another set of highly anticipated multiplayer games. It's still noteworthy though, as the language from last we heard about this suggested they were going to bring them back later.

I don't think this is true for Shadow of War though. Sterling almost comes to this realization but gets too distracted by his incredulity at the PR for the change. They have made the money they are going to make from loot boxes for this game and by ending support they don't have to pay whatever upkeep costs such a system had.

Shadow of War has also been out long enough that it is about to enter (or has entered, I haven't checked prices) price drop range for all the people who skipped it. Single player games like this don't need an active community and don't have the same levels of competition that Battlefront 2 is going to have, so more people will still continue to pick it up when the price lowers. Rather than being too late, it's a boon for everyone who hasn't played it yet.

Edit: And yes, I'm ignoring whatever tacked on multiplayer Shadow of War had. Base invasions or something?

So now the latest tactic is to keep the microtransactions off during the initial review/streaming first few weeks, then activate them later after the reviews, youtube/twitch reactions are set.

Gross. And smart. I think EA would still get roasted for this, but Call of Duty will probably get a pass. There had already been rumblings a few months ago when people were dissatisfied with the map pack situation (I don't remember the details) but as soon as the Battle Royale mode was revealed all seemed to be forgiven.

Their audience is very loyal/set in their ways. Even Ghost, the critical low point in the series, was one of the best selling games of both the year it came out and the year after. At this point I do not know what it would take for that particular audience to say "no" in any given year.

A ridiculous thing to even suggest. Not sure where Jaffe's head is at with that one. Maybe he is touchy because his own game has them.

P.S. That Playstation lootbox is lame, it should at least have a couple bargain bin trash titles in it. And there is no way Randy Pitchford forgot Jim Sterling's name. He was detailed in a way only someone completely obsessed but determined to throw shade can be.

Edit: Looked up the Randy Pitchford stuff alluded to in the video, and oh boy what a circus that is. I'm not even sure if one video would be enough to cover it. And that stuff about magic? Sterling didn't make that up, it's something Pitchford actually said. This is too much.

I think Jim hit it right with the comparison to the design of slot machines, You could call their decoration and graphics art. Heck you could call the theme buildings that make up Las Vegas as art but the state still has every right to regulate the commerce(gambling) inside.

ACTIVISION have CROSSED A LINE that is above and beyond now. They have started to add "shaming markers" next to the names of Players who HAVEN'T purchased the Season Pass!!
