There is a reason oaths say to defend against enemies both foreign and domestic.

The Republicans will be viewed by posterity as cowed, conspirators, cowards and collaborators.
Paul Ryan will be viewed the way joe McCarthey is viewed by us today. He has made his way onto the wrong side of history.

Don Jr. and Erik Prince sure have a lot of secret meetings with Russians and UAE/Saudis political agents/operatives for a Campaign that didn't "Collude."

    http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/3...solutely-crazy

For those not following along, Erik Prince is a) the brother of Betsy Devos (now Sec. of Education) and b) the founder/owner of now-renamed Blackwater Mercenaries. He is also c) the man who met with Russians and UAE operatives again in January 2017, d) who had apparently lied under oath about his involvement with the Campaign and any foreigners ("I merely supported the Campaign, as in legal contributions and a yard sign supporting Trump" while it is also known now that he was writing policy briefs to Trump and holding these meetings on behalf of Trump), d) was known to want to privatize the Afghan war via mercenaries and also set up a "shadow intelligence" unit (Waffen-SS /and/ Gestapo run by Prince, check), and e) was looking to cash in just about any way through his oil 'logistics' concerns that he diversified into after Blackwater's reputation was severely sullied due to that murderous incident in Iraq a few years back that he should've been prosecuted for and f) a general scumbag traitor selling out his country when he likely has vast wealth from the DeVos Amway fortune.

    But...her emails! and

    WITCH HUNT!

Here's the NYT story that Gidizlo's link above references: Trump Jr. and Other Aides Met With Gulf Emissary Offering Help to Win Election

With both Nader and Flynn at that meeting there's a decent chance the special counsel's office knows what went down.

I'm also linking a NYT story about Trump's misdirection du jour.

A good, detailed, summary of the Trump mess (to date):

    https://www.salon.com/2018/05/19/wha...w-about-trump/

Someone should send a copy of this to every Senator and Congressman and tell them to do their fucking job. Any one of these items would be a huge scandal for any other president. Here is a whole page of them - and the Republicans in both houses of Congress are ignoring them.

I haven't had a chance to read this whole thing, but it looks interesting. Long AP story exposing Broidy and Nader's anti-Qatari lobbying on Emirate and Saudi behalf: The princes, the president and the fortune seekers

Trump lawyer 'paid by Ukraine' to arrange White House talks

Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, received a secret payment of at least $400,000 (£300,000) to fix talks between the Ukrainian president and President Trump, according to sources in Kiev close to those involved.

The payment was arranged by intermediaries acting for Ukraine's leader, Petro Poroshenko, the sources said, though Mr Cohen was not registered as a representative of Ukraine as required by US law.

    Mr Cohen denies the allegation.

The meeting at the White House was last June. Shortly after the Ukrainian president returned home, his country's anti-corruption agency stopped its investigation into Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort.

A high-ranking Ukrainian intelligence officer in Mr Poroshenko's administration described what happened before the visit to the White House.

Mr Cohen was brought in, he said, because Ukraine's registered lobbyists and embassy in Washington DC could get Mr Poroshenko little more than a brief photo-op with Mr Trump. Mr Poroshenko needed something that could be portrayed as "talks".

This senior official's account is as follows - Mr Poroshenko decided to establish a back channel to Mr Trump. The task was given to a former aide, who asked a loyal Ukrainian MP for help.

He in turn used personal contacts in a Jewish charity in New York state, Chabad of Port Washington. This eventually led to Michael Cohen, the president's lawyer and trusted fixer. Mr Cohen was paid $400,000.

There is no suggestion that Mr Trump knew about the payment.

A second source in Kiev gave the same details, except that the total paid to Mr Cohen was $600,000.

There was also support for the account from a lawyer in the US who has uncovered details of Mr Cohen's finances, Michael Avenatti. He represents a porn actress, Stormy Daniels, in legal action against President Trump.

Avenatti said that Suspicious Activity Reports filed by Mr Cohen's bank to the US Treasury showed he had received money from "Ukrainian interests".

As well as Mr Cohen, the two Ukrainians said to have opened the backchannel for their president also denied the story.

The senior intelligence official in Kiev said Mr Cohen had been helped by Felix Sater, a convicted former mobster who was once Trump's business partner. Mr Sater's lawyer, too, denied the allegations. The Ukrainian president's office refused to comment.

As was widely reported last June, Mr Poroshenko was still guessing at how much time he would have with Mr Trump even as he flew to Washington.

The White House schedule said only that Mr Poroshenko would "drop in" to the Oval Office while Mr Trump was having staff meetings.

That had been agreed through official channels. Mr Cohen's fee was for getting Mr Poroshenko more than just an embarrassingly brief few minutes of small talk and a handshake, the senior official said. But negotiations continued until the early hours of the day of the visit.

It happened because in the end Trump is in control of the executive and if he wants Kushner to have a made up "permanent" security clearance then nobody can currently do anything about it.

But it's OK. Giuliani said they didn't want the guy's name... just everything he told the FBI about Trump.

I don’t want the guy’s identity. I don’t want classified information. What I need to know is, 'What’s the basis for their doing it?' Most important, 'What did the informant produce?'

Just because it's normally done by functionaries has never precluded the President from exercising his powers directly if he wants to. That is what being the President means. An entire branch of the government is his to use as he sees fit. Only Congress and the courts can try to change that.

Luckily, an idiot has shown us we must codify, the norms in case a smart despot gets in the White House, not the mad queen of hearts, we have now.

Just ask him what he thinks of MH-17 and he immediately becomes distinctly less anti-Russian.

MH-17 puts Russia at two airliners shot down with no major repercussions. First one was the Korean flight back during the cold war, Shot down by a MIG.

Course the USN also has shot down a civilian airliner, Iranian. Crew never once tried to contact the plane on ATC frequencies.

There was a friend of mine on board of the second airliner.

Michael Cohen looks to be on the verge of flipping...

As attorneys for Michael Cohen rush to meet Judge Kimba Wood’s Friday deadline to complete a privilege review of over 3.7 million documents seized in the April 9 raids of Cohen’s New York properties and law office, a source representing this matter has disclosed to ABC News that the law firm handling the case for Cohen is not expected to represent him going forward.
Cohen, now with no legal representation, is likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors in New York, sources said. This development, which is believed to be imminent, will likely hit the White House, family members, staffers and counsels hard.

Mueller requested 75 blank subpoenas. Sure, he's probably not going to use them all at once, but I predict some subpoenas to be flying soon.

okay, not to play devil's advocate, but two months to go through...

On one hand you'd think this would mean "all hands on deck" on the other hand this is a RICOCKULOUS AMOUNT OF PAPERWORK TO REQUISITION.

No wonder Enron shredded everything they could.

As someone who has been responsible for multiple litigation holds on e-mails since 2004, NOBODY LOOKS AT THIS SHIT IN ITS ENTIRETY.

The blank subpeonas just reinforce that. It's "bog everyone down and then just pull up something if it's superextraturbo obvious.

They'll probably pull up something when cages get rattled, but this is theater and nothing else.

Inasmuch as the entire legal system IS theater, depending on your perspective, you are correct. But you are wildly incorrect about not reading these particular files in their entirety.

This is a subpoena of the personal lawyer of the sitting POTUS. As per the article, by last week Cohen's team had reviewed 300,000 records, found 162 that the special master agreed were privileged, and had 3 documents denied privilege.

When the rest of the documents get turned over to the federal prosecutors, they will review every single document. You might cut corners with Joe public's records, but if you go to this extent for this particular target, you dot every I and cross every T.
