Linode Restructuring and Notice of upcoming outage

I'm going to restructure our host soon, which will require an unscheduled reset for aronud 30 minutes.

Plan RAM Disk XFER CPU Price
    Linode 1G 1 GB 24 GB 2 TB 8 cores (1x priority) $20 / mo
    Linode 2G 2 GB 48 GB 4 TB 8 cores (2x priority) $40 / mo
    Linode 4G 4 GB 96 GB 8 TB 8 cores (4x priority) $80 / mo
    Linode 8G 8 GB 192 GB 16 TB 8 cores (8x priority) $160 / mo
    Linode 16G 16 GB 384 GB 20 TB 8 cores (16x priority) $320 / mo
    Linode 24G 24 GB 576 GB 20 TB 8 cores (24x priority) $480 / mo
    Linode 32G 32 GB 768 GB 20 TB 8 cores (32x priority) $640 / mo
    Linode 40G 40 GB 960 GB 20 TB 8 cores (40x priority) $800 / mo
And add $10/month for scheduled backup.

Right now our plan is 8CPU, 1GB RAM, for $40 + $10 backup. If I simply have our system rebooted we'll end up at 2GB RAM for the same cost, which is overkill for our current load. Switching to the lower plan will change our costs from $50/month to $30/month.

Also, I added a referral link in the footer. Anyone who signs up for linode using our referral and uses it for over 90 days gets us a $20 discount.

I can check with Voca, but we should be good into next year at some point (September 2014 or something).

This will extend it into 2015 with no additional donations, but I think I'd like to just set some "more frequent" donation reminders.

I'm thinking once a year during July, do a notice on the forum with our current status and a "goal" of something like $100.

Under our shady physical server conditions, for hosting alone we were paying ~$2200/year although I don't think there was any actual billing going on, it was just the owner pocketing however much money we could gather.

Under Mosso/Rackspace we were paying $1200/year.

Under Linode we've been paying $600/year, and I'm looking at knocking us down to $360/year. Which is quickly getting to that point where we won't have to do donations drives really.

This is great news, and it's reassuring that someone is tinkering with the options to get us the best value. Thank you, Nadiar.
