I will say yes, just because of this:

    1. What timezone exactly? and
    2. Is this summertime or wintertime?

Isn't he Dutch? I like the Dutch, ftmp, and their beer isn't nearly so bad when you drink it from a tap in a pup over in Amsterdam.

It's because we export the bad stuff. Try some Hertog Jan or Gulpener if you can find it - it's pretty tasty.

Heinekens has the weird idea that their beer has to taste the same all over the planet, so when they have a very good tasty brew, they mix it with a bad one to get their set taste back. Which makes Heinekens a terrible tasting beer all over.

Amstel special brews are better, Hertog Jan has a few great brews, especially their quadriple is really smooth, but some you can only buy at the brewery in Arcen, but it is worth the trip. I prefer the Autumn Bok beers they make though.

They tried. You can get me for free with a crate of Amstel right now. So everybody stopped buying Amstel.

Much for Shiner, damned good beer. Was able to find some Dixie Blackened Voodoo so I was happy happy.

And I'll stop derailing Etelka's thread

Most countries that export beer to the U.S. do weird things upon shipment.

Don't get me started on Guinness - Amstel is no exception

I don't get why the Dutch insist on drinking their own beer when they could be drinking Belgian beer instead.

Try Hertog Jan. Try Gulpener. Those two should be available outside the country as well. Next time you're in Holland, go to Café Oudaen in Utrecht, they have their own steam brewery. Hell, go to any of the new microbreweries around.
With the damage that InBev has done in Belgium, you might even say that the best Dutch beers are now starting to outrank the best Belgian ones.

Why so many people keep drinking Amstel, Heineken or Oranjeboom: I don't have a damn clue.

Better than Duvel, St Bernardus, Brasserie des Rocs? I am disbelieving.

Let's just say that some people are really upset that they've tinkered with the taste of Hoegaarden or Leffe for example.

Hoegaarden and Leffe are the Heineken of Belgium. When it comes to serious brews Belgium is still unmatched.

*shrug* Think what you like. About the Heineken of Belgium - I would say that that title would go to Kriek, Lambik, Palm or Geuze. Those were once great beers as well, just like Hoegaarden still is. I'm a bit on the fence about Leffe at this point.

Me, I like Belgian beers a lot, my day-to-day beer is still Jupiler by the way, but quality is not determined by country of origin, but by the attention that it's makers put into it. On that point, the Belgians have been quite slacking the past decade, though I have to admit that their genevers are now lightyears ahead of ours.

Some ten years ago, Gulpener has started to grow their own hop. They treat it as if it were their own vineyard so to speak, and by now it's really starting to make a difference. The hoppy taste of that beer is something that a joint like Duvel could only dream of.
