    Forum Rules (24/03/2009)

    Posting rules

In all forums and in blogs:

    1) No spam.

    2) Pornographic images and erotic fiction depicting or describing one or more individuals engaged in explicit or sexually-provocative behavior, viewable or linked, are prohibited at this site. Posting of porn will cause moderator action, from deleting links or posts or images up to suspensions of offenders. Frank discussion of sexual matters is not prohibited. Also see the NSFW rule.

    3) No posting of other people's private information, such as real name, phone number, physical address, and IP address, and no reposting of people's photographs. This applies even if that person has previously posted the information themselves.

    4) No express Racism, Anti-Semitism or Homophobia. This rule shall not be construed to prohibit legitimate discussion of controversial issues such as Affirmative Action, the Israel and Palestine Issue, or Same Sex Marriage.

In all forums other than Rants:

    5) The viewable and embedded content of posts, avatars, and signatures should always be Safe for Work as a rule. Sexy or graphic images (e.g., depicting violence) are generally Not Safe For Work. Content with audio should be flagged as such. Please err in favor of those at work and provide a NSFW tag on content if in doubt. Linked materials need not be Safe for Work but should be flagged as such.

    6) Be Civil: While vehement disagreement is part of the tradition of Graffes and is strongly encouraged, posts should conform to a minimal level of common decency. This is a constraint on form and not content.

    In Rants forums:

    7) Thread titles should be Safe for Work. Content need not be.

Reports of posts should specify the rule the reporter believes is being violated.

This is an update to the rules. It's short and sweet.

Any threat of legal action against the board, the mod team, or other posters on the board will result in banning.

It is absolutely a no go for the board, under any circumstances. We shouldn't have to say this, as every other board in existance would do it automatically, but to repeat - banning, straight up. We are not subjecting members to RL harassment and being blackmailed by threats of legal action just because someone doesn't like the contents of a conversation.

I think this is a good rule going forward, but it should not be applied Ex Post Facto.

As with any banning, users can apply after 6 months to the mod team to have the ban reviewed. This is not a guarantee it will be lifted of any sorts in any way, but the option is there.

It isn't though really, we already went over it when we were formulating the rules, and with muddvz. It was considered that doing things that would OBVIOUSLY get the forum taken down were against the rules, but didn't need to be written down. The example used was hosting torrents.

It is really though since It’s clearly stated that this is a new rule. You can disagree with my position that it should not be applied Ex Post Facto, or other’s beliefs that we should not be rules bound. However, if we’re going to adhere to a rule, then it’s like being “Pregnant,” the rule either existed before, or it didn’t.

I would generally agree, but anything done to clean up this shit is a good thing, including having to codify shit like attempting to blackmail the moderators. I figured making fun of the bigot publicly would be enough, but whatever. Just start cracking down on all the bullshit.

I would also presume that anyone who seriously has decided to undertake legal action against this board has probably already decided to permanently separate themselves from it, so it makes sense.

I do believe Zedd's account is also banned, so that does set a precedent, Torcer. Either way, it's weaksauce to threaten the board (even if there is little to no chance of anything ever really happening to the board itself, there is some slim degree of risk) because you don't like what someone says.

So I'm still not entirely sure how Zedd's banning came about. Did he explicitly ask to be banned or was it for some infraction?

    Also, why is Ialnyien banned/accountlocked?

    Re: Forum Rules (24/03/2009)

Oh - Zedd asked to be banned and removed form the board. Nadiar did it as his request.

Ianylien has been banned for threatening the mod staff and other users with legal action over thread contents.

    Re: Forum Rules (24/03/2009)

As it was explained to me, since I wasn't a mod yet when Zedd was banned, was that he asked to be banned, but would have been anyway, for threatening to sue. That is also why Ialnyien was banned.

    Re: Forum Rules (24/03/2009)

I very much agree that it’s weaksauce. Also, I’m probably the poster most opposed to banning, but I still think that a ban is justified if someone threatens to sue the board. However, I’d also rather people be on notice that this is the case. Zedd asked to be removed from the community, but I’d rather not have him be banned for what amounted to an emotional outburst that he did not mean if it wasn’t explicit before hand that he’d be banned for making that threat. It’s not fair to threaten to hold the board hostage, and its not fair to make a rule in response to someone’s actions and then apply that rule after the fact to their actions.
