For example, I PM'ed Zedd when he referred to me in a very derogatory way in a thread I wasn't even posting in. I PM'ed Torcer when I had said some wrong things about him in a thread.
Point of order: I didn't refer to you in a derogatory way, you took it that way. I named you as one of the more outspoken Atheists (i.e. rabid) and you go your knickers in a knot. I'd prefer to let that sleeping dog lie,, wouldn't you?

    As for this clusterfuck:

We all love to scream about how people in life don't have personal responsibility anymore, that people won't take responsibilty for their fuck ups. If a graffes poster gets fired for something that's on their computer at work that's their own miserable god damned fault. Grow up and grow a pair people (top set or bottom set meh). If you shouldn't be on the computer at work looking at a old crusty gaming message board, well you bloody well can't cry foul when you get caught, or try to warp the very fabric of reality here at graffe.com/forums in order to make it less likely you'll get caught. And that's what this is REALLY all about anyway. Giant "FUCK" sigs and naughty bouncing boobies are things that coworkers might see, or things that might trip the "WTF?" alarm in the network admin's office. So if we can just. force. everyone else. to change what they put in their sigs (sigs now, post content is coming next I garangoddamntee it) they maybe, just maybe we can keep on keeping on fucking off at work on graffe.com/forums instead of doing our fucking jobs.

And here's a preemptive SHHH! about my particular profession:

I hurl myself across the sky at over 500mph being exposed to idiocy, sickness, and various other RL things because I want to. I don't need to worry about what might happen to me were I to be caught reading graffes in my cubicle or my corner office. That doesn't mean I can't recognize the sheer lunacy afoot here.

Its just a matter of making the standard generally acceptable at work, not making it 100% foolproof as Safe For Work. Cutting out porn goes a long way to this end. The other stuff is very circumstantial, and much harder to pin down in a one size fits all manner.

I don't see you as being a petty sort of person, so I'm guessing that you aren't inclined to go after that kind of personal attack. While we've been disagreeing very strongly recently, that certainly doesn't mean that I think you're not a good person. Just slightly more misguided than I am, that's all!

But you feel perfectly justified in making rash assumptions about our internet use at work. It's all Title VII Sexual Harassment that I am woried about, not to mention yeah, making the experience annoying ON PURPOSE is an asshole move. I'm allowed to use the downtime while installing, setting up, or compiling, to surf the web recreationally, AS LONG AS I DON'T RUB PEOPLE'S FACES IN IT. It's an Operations/IT Department perk. Otherwise we have to spend a lot of time sitting still staring at a screen while dots appear in a status line.

But thanks for deciding that if Nadiar puts a boner pic on my screen that it's MY fault. Blame the victim why doncha.

Careful, if I were going to blame you for anything other than what I said - I would specifically state that.

No it doesn't help if graffe members are being tools with their sigs, but where do we draw the line?

I'll state again that people who get in trouble for anything that pops up on this or any other website knew the risk and knew that they were doing something outside the scope of their company's internet access policies. If graffe's is known [to the user] that problems might arise, simply stay off graffes and catch up at home. I have to do that and I'm fine with it.

My company is very strict about how we surf the internet, and has totally disabled our ability to use the internet in all public contact areas. Crew lounges have a very strict firewall that keeps people off of such terrible sites as www.graffe.com/forums - unless one uses that websitetestlink thingy...

It's certainly not my intent to blame any victim here, but really if we're going to use that analogy, the victim was clearly asking for it, dressed all demure and stuff in that corporate grey pants suit, using that Matrix~ish econobox computer...

    also:

I don't understand all of this stuff, so please bare with me but couldn't we come up with a text only mirror version thingy for just this sort of situation?

I know I've seen something like this before, but it would look like a bar bones version of graffes, sans the pretty colors, sigs and all that other stuff. Is that possible?

I would just prefer to come up with a solution for those of you who seem to be under all of these draconian Sysadmin overlords that seem ready to pounce on you the moment you happen to scroll down through a thread and are blind sided by someone writing POOPYPANTS in giant red letters.

We've had that for a few months now.

At the bottom of the page people can select VBstripped from the style selection box.

    That was my point hon...

You said something I took offense too. I didn't start a thread about it, I PM'ed you and we resolved it.

Speaking to people one on one just works better in the vast majority of cases in my experiance.

    Oh my god...

You mean to tell me, that people could simply select this VB stripped and they wouldn't risk any sort of "problems" at work because all the naughty pictures and giant texts would be gone????

That's exactly the crux of the matter, Zedd. Graffe's is NOT known to be a place that NSFW problems might arise (note, "NSFW" in this context is defined as "NSFW materials that HR/IT departments would have a problem with - not in terms of "oh, noes, somebody used a cuss word".)

For those of us who *are* allowed to surf websites during the work day, Graffe's is and has been a place that is "allowed" by our workplace, due to Graffe's' policy re: NSFW materials. If people violate those policies, then Graffe's gets moved from the "greenlist", to the "blacklist".

Why wouldn't those of us who *are* allowed to surf "safe" sites (which graffe's has been until just recently) object to it suddenly becoming a "non-safe" site? Why should we accept the response of "tough luck - now you'll have to read Graffe's from home too", when all it would take to prevent that is the enforcement of policies that we've had here, in one form or another, for years?

It's not that we want to allow porn on the site Zarbonius, it's that we disagree with how the NSFW tag is being used.

This isn't about a signature graphic that wasn't even remotely close to being as bad as other pictures that have been thrown around this site. It's about users using the NSFW tag to castigate others that they do not like.

The man that started this entire signature, NSFW bullshit is the same guy that posts shit like this:

    http://www.graffe.com/forums/showpos...06&postcount=5
    and
    http://www.graffe.com/forums/showpos...09&postcount=6
    and
    http://www.graffe.com/forums/showpos...1&postcount=13

ALL of which is as bad or worse than Daph's signature. Dmitry is really concerned about NSFW images.

You people dance on Dmitry's strings beautifully.

Daph's signature was fine. This boards rule set for NSFW images was fine. Our interpretation of what was NSFW was fine.

Comcast blocks graffes by default due to its association with gaming.

/shrug, I never said anything about Daph's signature - nor do I "dance on Dmitry's strings". Personally, I consider Daph's sigs a lot closer to the NSFW line than anyone else's sig on Graffe's that I can recall atm, but not over the line for my particular workplace. I can see how they might be over the line for some workplaces though, and I think that if the sig request had come (via PM or report) from say, Stumpey for example (apologies to Stumpey - just using him as an example of a fairly reputable non-controversial poster), it wouldn't have caused much of an issue, if any at all.

In any case, I wasn't addressing Daph's sig. I was simply responding to the argument posted by Zedd and others that those of us who are legitimately able to browse Graffe's at work should simply not do so any more if NSFW material appears, rather than trying to get it removed. That seemed like a pretty lousy position to take. Kind of a reverse "I've got mine, screw you guys!" argument - "Well, I'm not able to browse Graffe's at my work, so neither should you!"

@Lysandor - um... I'm not really sure how that's related to what I posted, but thanks for the info? (I don't work at Comcast?)

Those are basically on-topic posts for that particular thread, not sigs that pop up everywhere.

They are still subject to the same rules as sigs though. So that argument is only marginally valid.
