It's working just fine for most people. They give refunds to the people it's not working correctly for and let everyone else continue to use it. Obviously it would be preferable if it worked for everyone, but I don't see a problem with what they're doing now.

The problem is that it is not working fine for most people. My current information on my toon is correct. My wife's information is not. Beside that though features that I am paying for that I expect to be able to get to when I click on it tells me I need to Upgrade my account to use EQPlayers rather than provide me the information it is supposed to provide.

There are more issues than just not showing things correctly and it is affecting most of the people who are signing up. There are some things that are supposed to be available to everybody within the guild or whatever even if you don't pay for EQPlayers and that is not working in many cases.

So far I figured I had waited long enough for them to have gotten the bugs worked out. Seems I was mistaken.

What are u expecting to get without paying that it won't let you access? Here's the list of free stuff you get

    from the terms of service
Standard features such as a guild website, forum posts as your in-game character, server community portals, class guides, news and forums and dynamic character information pages are included with your Game subscription at no additional cost.
The one most people are having trouble with is the dynamic character info page. Are u having trouble getting the guild website? I found a page that simply listed my guild's members and avg level and so forth. I bet that is what they mean by "guild website"

i would argue that it does not work fine for most people. the whole database is broken, i can not see how it works fine for a single person. sure maybe it lists most of the information, but i would guess that just about every profile is broken to some extent. you can excuse sony all you want, it doesn't mean eqplayers works.

Mostly as you say the issues are with the Dynamic Character information. The issue is it isn't just mine that I am having issues with. If I am paying the full amount and create a character to use as a guild mule then make his inventory publicly available that information should be there for anybody to see regardless if they are paying or not. The issues I am seeing is some people are able to see this information while others are not. This is not going to be an issue of that new toon if some can see it and others can't.

It is just too hit and miss for what they are collecting and what is actually able to be seen. It is not like they are referring back to the server and that toon every time it is accessed on the page. It is just referring back to the last update that was saved to the eqplayers servers. Either way you can't even get valid information available that is supposed to be viewable by everybody consistantly.

"EQ Players contains many services that are considered part of your subscription to EverQuest or Station Access. These include things like Guild Websites, Basic Character Profiles, a small Image Gallery, Canned Leaderboards, Class Spell & Skill lists and more."

This is a direct quote from SoE: eqplayers.station.sony.com/co...e=eqplayersfaqBasic

Namely, everyone who subscribes is supposed to get EQPLAYERS but they do not. Those who can actually see their characters and whose stats are correct still don't get service as they receive incorrect information from the broken leaderboards etc.

To return to the original horse racing analogy of Ascot 2008: What those who can see their characters get is the ability to see their horse's equipment but they are blind to what's really out there in the rest of the field and the reports of who are in the winner's circle is wrong.

Come on, there is NO EXCUSE for database failure these days. Sure we could let them off the hook if it were cutting edge graphics but that's not the problem. Here we have SoE socking in our money from subscriptions and from the poor folks who actually pay for advanced features of EQPLAYERS and failing at something for over a year that your dentist's secretary can do. They are being slobs at everone's expense but theirs.

When I look in my options window i see a button that says "EQPlayers Auto Update" and when I press it it says "Your character will NOT automatically update in EQPlayers, you must do this manually by issuing the /eqplayersupdate command" Since this option is in the game it means that the rankings were NEVER meant to be accurate. I agree that it's pretty dumb that they can't get things working properly but don't cry about inaccurate rankings since even if everything worked fine they still wouldn't be accurate.

If something is labeled "leaderboard" one usually doesn't expect it to be exceptionally inaccurate and particularly biased at the top and the EQPLAYERS leaderboard has both faults.

According to the pattern I can see from all the hundreds of posts about EQPLAYERS characters missing on the SoE boards, most, are level 80 characters and high level characters. Namely you are more likely to NOT be there even if you are trying to be there if you are level 80.

In my correspondence with SoE they also note that characters that have been moved across servers (since most folks don't move low level characters, again these would tend to be high levels) are also likely to become invisible to everyone, including their owners.

again a summary of the SoE documented aspects* of the case against EQPLAYERS:

    (1) EQPLAYERS is considered a basic part of everyone's subscription to EQ by SoE.
    (2) Hundreds of players have registered problems with EQPLAYERS on SoE's forum for EQPLAYERS.
    (3) The CEO of SoE admitted in July of last year, in print, that there are serious problems with EQPLAYERS and has offered a full refund to anyone paying for advanced features
    (4) SoE has continued to collect, and advertise for, EQPLAYERS

    * I don't add any of my own. This information, documented by SoE, seems sufficient to me to win in Fraud litigation against SoE.

Do you even know what fraud is? Fraud is basically a deception made for personal gain. For this to be fraud there would have to be some sort of deception. It appears to me that SoE is quite open about how buggy eqplayers is. Since they offer refunds when it doesn't work they're not really gaining anything either. I suppose if you really wanted to stretch you could say they're saving time by not fixing it but that's pretty silly imo =)

Charging for something you know is broken and that you've known was broken for 10 months if fraud. Tossing a refund back to a percentage who asks for it attempts to obfuscate the fact that they continue to make a profit from a broken product that they know is broken.

It is only fraud if they say it is working fine. Since they have stated that it is broken it can't be fraud because they are not lying about their product. At this point they are only guilty of having a crappy product but that is not illegal =P

They say EQPLAYERS is working fine and go on and on about how super and great it is when advertising it and redirecting you to pages where you sign up. Further in FAQs they tell you the basic part of this great product is a part of everyone's subscription. Everyone gets access to the super leaderboards, the great character search engines, (that somehow miss lots of folks like my main character), etc. etc. You only read that it is broken if you go to the forums and dig through them.

Further, yesterday SoE again attempted to hide the number of people who are upset by their characters missing by pruning that thread by about 75%. They do that every month or so.

I will admit I got some action yesterday from SoE on my character. Here is a direct copy of my personal message and my reply to that message:

First, let me apologize for how long it took me to get back to you. Thank you for getting in touch with me about this issue.

At this point, I believe we have resolved the issue. Your character was mistakenly marked as deleted as a result of either a Character Transfer or Restore. We have manually adjusted the character, so he should now show up again Please let me know if that has not resolved the issue for you.

    My reply:

I have been petitioning about this problem for 8 months, I've called SoE, and I post frequently on all forums dealing with Everquest, including the EQPLAYERS forum. Sadly you are the very first person representing SoE that has actually admitted to looking at my character, as opposed to saying they've passed it on, or they can't do anything about it, or that they've been informed that the problem has been moved to the platform (whatever that is). Seems like far too much of customer response is done by administrators and CSRs, and little, if anything, is done by the actual folks who deal with coding and characters. I've pretty much stopped playing EQ because of my feeling of being ignored by SoE. How SoE could so blatently ignore so many people who have petitioned about EQPLAYERS is beyond me. After all, EQPLAYERS is the SoE "Scoreboard" of character advancement. How can SoE ignore a "scoreboard" and still respect the characters that strive to be at the top of their class and servers? My answer to this question is that SoE does not respect the people who play their game Everquest.

But I do greatly appreciate it that you have taken a look at my character. To bite the solitary individual who has actually looked at him would be stupid. So when I say thank you, I mean it. We, the players, need more folks like you, and far less folks like the ones who have ignored me or tossed me platitudes for the past 8 months. Unfortunately I did try and update Saeldaan, and nothing happened. He still does not exist. Maybe he will show up sometime. Beats me, he was great on EQPLAYERS, every update showed perfectly then poof, on about October 3rd, 2007 he disappeared from my character lists and from everyone elses' searches of EQPLAYERS.
    Thanks again,

As a postscript: Saeldaan was transferred from another of my accounts over 2 years ago. His corpse was lost on one of the many times that the guild lobby crashed. But that was about a month before he disappeared from EQPLAYERS to my recollection.
