How & Where to Quad: Levels 34-45 - By Bicrius of Luclin

Greetings!! I am Bicrius, aka "Bic" of Luclin. I am a wizard fanatic and a veteran quad kiter. I spend most of my time questing and goofing off, and only level when I need to... and every wizard knows that the best way to level is through quad kiting. Believe it or not, YOU are one of the best soloing classes in the game because of the wonders of quad kiting. So, with out further delay, I'd like to give my quad kiting advice to other wizards out there who don't know the wonders of quad kiting. This is what I did all the way from 34 through 45:

    Necessary spells:
    - Bonds of Force
    - Circle of Force (researched ae)

    Necessary buffs:
    - Sow or jboot effect
    - Steel skin
    - Your best sheilding spell

    Helpful extra:
    - Staff of temperal flux

    Best zone to quad in:
    - Eastern Wastes

    Quad kiting description:
    - In Eastern Wastes, when you're coming down off the bridge from IC, turn right and follow the coast until you hit a tree that's sitting alone on the ledge, a little way past the Coldain Missionary post (loc not available at the monent). That tree is a safespot if you sit at it's base, not mobs should wander close enough to aggro onto you.

    - 1. Bind yourself at the tree's base
    - 2. Self buff with your best shield and LeatherSkin/SteelSkin
    - 3. Spells to have loaded: Harvest, Circle of force, Bonds of Force, Root, Tishan's Clash, you're biggest dd for your level, a smaller dd (inferno shock or frost shock), and a gate to your favorite banking zone... I use Gfay Gate.
    - 4. BE SURE TO BE SOWED OR HAVE JBOOTS ON
    - 5. What to pull: You'll be pulling walruses, Ulthork Hunters, and Ulthork Warriors. A note on the Ulthork Warriors- unless you're 39+ you may have trouble finishing them off after the quad, but try it first. If you're 39+ don't bother pulling walruses because you won't get exp from them. If your back is to the ocean and you're at the base of the tree, the Ulthorks and Walruses spawn and wander in a range from directly along the coast to your right to about straight ahead of you in that 90 degree range.
    - 6. How to pull (without staff of temperal flux): Run up to get the Ulthork/walrus's attention, the second it aggroes on you MOVE IT and get another to aggro you until you have 4 of them following you. Run toward the Coldain Missionary Outpost... once you're somewhere between the tree and the outpost turn around and wait for your mobs to catch up to you... don't get too far ahead or you'll lose them. Once they're within casting distance, run around them in a large circle and round them up so that they're all close together. You may have to hit F9 a few times so you can get a good angle to see what you're doing... Once you've got them rounded up into ball, run along the coast toward the Missionary Outpost and past it... the coast has no mobs near it, it's safe. Once you've run far enough that you think you can get off Bonds of Force, stop and cast it. If some resist, run ahead and try again, then re-round them up and re-Bonds of Force them. Once you have them snared and following you, run ahead along the coast and cast Circle of Force on them. Repeat Circle of Force until they're all dead. Keep in mind how long since you snared, incase you have to re-snare. Bonds of Force only lasts roughly a minute and a half. If all hell breaks lose and you run out of mana, either gate or run along the coast to the bridge and zone.
    - 6. Pulling WITH a staff of temperal flux: Use the same as is stated above, but cast your SoTF on the run to aggro them, and use it as a gadge for casting distance for when you're going to cast Bonds of Force or Circle of Force.

Use root, tishan's clash, and your nukes when necessary for finishing them off at the end. Once you get the hang of this be creative, there are other safe places to pull, and that quad kiting skill will come in handy time and time again...

Good luck wizards of Norrath!! This worked wonders for me, I sold and gave away tons of Velium weapons, Ulthork armor, Walrus tusks, Ulthork tusks, etc... and actually made money doing this. PLUS Ulthorks can drop up to about 5pp each, so killing 4 of them at a time can be quite lucrative.

A final note on Ulthork Tusks- It's wise NOT to sell your Ulthork tusks. They're used for a quest in Cobalt Scar. If you hand 4 of them in at a time to the Otter chief there, he will give you rare gems and Velious quest armor gems... so you'd actually be losing out BIG TIME if you were selling the Ulthork tusks for 30-50pp each rather than doing this quest.

Any questions or other help? Come to Luclin and look me up... the name is Bicrius, my main alt is Dabic.

And if you don't believe it can be done, this is from when I was only 37...

Hey Bic! Thanks for the guide! If you don't mind giving a quading newbie some pointers, I'd really be one happy camper. :-)

    Awesome Guide -- Thanks

    Thanks for the awesome guide!

I have not done EW yet. I moved directly to GD and began kiting Drakkel Dire Wolves. I've done three in a tri-kite more than once.

The Drakkel wolves are the easiest multi-kite I've had to date, but the terrain is nasty, the Giants don't like you killing their doggies, and finding three or more wolves can be problematic.

Likewise, because the terrain hides critters well, it's easy to find that one giant you had snared turned into three Drakkel wolves plus that giant with the three wolves unsnared.

However, my primary goal is faction plus XP. I figure I should go ahead and do what gives me *both*.

There are lots of 50+ folks hunting giants in GD right now for absolutlely zero XP but faction. I might as well do both.

On a side note, I can solo-kite the Frost Giant Scouts okay if I get a BoF off in the first three tries. Chances are, if I have to BoF five or more times, then the giant will resist my DD too and I just have to run to the guards.

I will probably try Ulthorks just because I need the XP when I hit 40. At 39, should I be able to quad Warriors okay?

At level 39 I believe that if your int is at 200 you should have enough mana to quad 4 warriors. It's easy to get 4 of these in one kite. Their levels go like this:

Ulthork Warriors > Ulthork Hunters > walruses

If I had to guess, and this is not exactly certain, walruses and hunters are low 30's, maybe around 28-33ish. The warriors are about 34ish, but if you go oom with little resists on them you should finish them off. I'd suggest for your first run get 3 hunters/walruses and one warrior and see exactly how much you take off the warrior. At 39 you *should* be able to finish them off normally with Circle of Force, but the walruses and hunters will drop about 1-2 casts sooner.

Let me know how you do Spankda... and Aureusalaneur, look me up next time you log on... I'm usually on after 11pmEST. Once we hit 45 it's harder to quad for exp because that's a level 34 spell we'd be quadding with, and our next good one doesn't come until 51-53 I think.

I too have been kiting in GD, and I haven't had much trouble getting 4 wolves. went from 34-40 there in just a few days, very nice faction too. now I'm 41 though and I've been exploring a bit.. I've tried uthorks, but on my server (Innoruuk) it seems they are UBER camped 24/7... I've never seen more than 2 or 3 up at a time, and they generally get pulled as soon as they spawn. Is this a-typical of other servers? the couple uthorks I did kill were great xp, but I just couldn't find enough to make it worth while.

    Ulthork Spawns

I checked them out about three days ago and there were Ulthorks galore.

Yipee! I killed a few and went back to GD for more wolves and giants. I really wanted to get my 10 Kromrif heads for the second Coldain Prayer Shawl.

Well, I went back a couple days ago to visit the Ulthorks, and they were camped. Hardly any there.

Went back yesterday and again they were camped. I did manage to kill a few.

I have yet to see a tusk drop. E'ci server.

Hey Bicrius, nice guide. I'll have to give it a try. I've been 1 and 2 kiting in OT for a little while. Will have to give Ulthorks a try.
I'm also on Luclin, I'll look you up some time.

    Thank you. =D

The xp is mad compared to what I'm used to, and I just got my clicky stick yesterday so it's even easier now. I hope to hit 40 today and 41 tommorrow....now I just need those jboots to save the $$ on the sow potions. =)

Btw, to anyone who gets their clicky staff, do not target a friend and use it as soon as you get it....the whole Temple wigs out and beats you down ghetto style.

    This guide is great

I read this guide at level 36 and started quadding according to it's directions. Shortly thereafter, I'm level 39 and taking a quad break. Thanks for the guide, it's very informative.

hehe, I posted on 6/24 as a lvl 35 wiz. I'm now 44th. All from ulthork. (and I screw off quite a bit, so I'm not power leveling like I *could*)

Working on quadding in this area. I still can't decide yet if it's a blessing or a curse that there are Druids hunting in this area. They give SOW usually, and if I"m lucky there is an enchanter as well, but it makes quadding a bit hard as there are then to many people around. I have found that doing 2 at a time is just not worth the mana cost. If you do it, do it for the practice. Walrusses carry crap for loot, but are a safer quad at 35...

Ok.. I finally tried this this past weekend. Had to be conservative since I did not have the highest possible AOE spells researched yet. (Not for lack of trying but lack of runes). But anyway got 4 walrus all blue to me and started the kite. Worked great until I 3 of them down but not enough mana to drop the last one. Think that was my own mistake and I may have not gotten the Lower Element to stick on the last one. I was able to zone across the bridge with no problem and was drooling at the thought of pulling it off and the nice EXP boost. Then of course I got the let down of my life when the SOW faded. Have to buy more potions and work on boots.
