Dawn of War Soulstorm - Good overall, once again, Easy mode is way too easy, and hard is way too hard... normal is well normal...
Warhammer Online Beta - Suffice to say that I disagree/agree with its latest delay.
StarCraft - As always, still very fun.
COD4 - Fun, + more fun
Drakes Fortune (PS3) / Mass Effect (360)
I just finished Assassin's Creed.
Drakes Fortune is my main - I like to play Mass Effect late at night on weekends so I can get sucked into the epic space opera that it is :)
I just started Drakes tonight. The story line would make for a fine movie. I love a good treasure hunt.
Wild Arms 5: Actually just beat it. It was very enjoyable rpg lite. A little too easy, it surprised me with a storyline idea I rather liked, but then completely botched it in the last segment of the game. Lots of bonus content left, but I think I'm going to save it for when I get the Wild Arms PSP (they unlock extra content in each other).
Crisis Core: Very very slick. I am only three hours in, so I can't say much, but it is fun so far. The presentation is incredible, even if you don't like a Square game's story or mechanics, their production values are usually off the chart, and this seems to be no exception.
Overlord: One of the games I tried and didn't like well enough to shell out 50 bucks, but promised to get once they dropped to 20-30. The personality imbued in this game is highly enjoyable, both in your minions and in the npcs you encounter. Never has killing halfings been more fun!
I've got a small stack of books and games I haven't had time for yet, and a larger number that I have saved on a list but not yet purchased/rented. I thought about resurrecting the original "what are you playing" thread a few times, but then I realized it would probably just be me bumping it every few weeks. :p
Vanguard: Not so bad.
Oblivion: I created a Sociopathic Assassin with ID problems.
Apparently the Dark Brotherhood has the most interesting characters in the game. This little corner of oblivion so far redeems the rest of this pile of dog turds.
Sins of a Solar Empire - awesome, awesome game
Also giving Titan Quest and its expansion a go, although only multiplayer with several friends - its pretty fun.
Not much time to do a lot of gaming any more, had to shelve EvE :(
Warhammer 40k Soulstorm - Kinda cool? I guess?
COD4 - I still kinda suck, but its still fun.
EQ2 - Fun and fun. I just wish I could find a group.
Wii Sports - YAY!
Smash Brothers Brawl - (home run derby is the greatest!)
EQ2 - Lots of fun so far, but then again...I'm only Lvl 28
CoD 4 (x360) - Best shooter by far.
WoW - I'm such a fanboy... But it's highly enjoyable for me still. Especially the part where you can log on for 1 hour and still accomplish something without needing a group.
FF3 on the DS - Almost unlocked the Summoner class. I don't care if it's gimp, I'm going to summon Bahamut!
WoW - Very big fanboy currently and having all kinds of good times as I level.
Wii - Sports or Play - Only occasionally with my 7 year old but we both have lots of fun.
WoW - still having fun.
2.4 brought even more fun.
geometry wars on ds, great stuff, very intense
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. (Zsnes)
Smash Bros. Brawl - I wish I could find someone to play against that doesn't require online. For some reason I can't play more than 5 minutes without a disconnect.
That said, I'm enjoying it immensely and while I haven't put in the time to finish the last area of SSE, I have done over ten characters' All Star battles.
Uhm, yeah, that's it.
I was looking for a rogue-like that I could play at work, and found Gearhead, which is really rather cool and probably much more in-depth than even Nethack (rogue-like combined with mecha battle mechanics) but a lack of documentation made it annoying to play.
I also tried to pick Pokemon back up for distractions' sake but couldn't get back into the swing.
Me + wife are spending the evenings with Mass Effect. Sounds sad to anyone except geeks :)
Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) -- I was worried that it might be too old-school, as most reviews snagged on that, but it turned out to be pretty much exactly what I needed after all the action-y RPGs of the past years. It reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy (duh) without being a straight copy of it.
Waiting for Sam & Max 205: What's New, Beezlebub? (PC) -- If the last two episodes are any indication this is promising to be an awesome finale for Season 2. Shame about the long wait for Season 3, but at least that'll give me time to replay the other episodes.
SSB: Brawl, but I'll be playing that off and on until the next one arrives.
Just bought bioshock a few days ago but have barely been able to play it.
Rayman: Raving Rabbits. It's gay. It's hella gay. As Cartman would put it, "That shit is pretty fucked up, right there." 30 minutes playing, and I'm taking it back. Thank God it's a rental.
WoW - the wife and I play twice a week, and we're getting worked up to try MT soon. The new Dailies have reinvented my interest in earning $$, and I have a rogue twink I'm playing around with.
Oasis - I found the $10 discount bin with a full copy. I remembered the demo from way back, and this is fun :)
Civ 4.
Wow, mass effect, brawl, zelda series on the virtual console.
Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos.
Mostly CoD4 for a quick gaming fix. It can be an exercise in frustration. I'm a good FPS player when I have a keyboard-mouse set-up. I'm quick and accurate. Using an XBox controller (my laptop can't handle CoD4 and I'm never going back into PC gaming) harder for me. I don't spend enough time with the game to develop my two-thumb skillz. So I do a lot of camping in CoD4, because my accuracy isn't that hot. ;)
City of Heroes. For all its faults it's still my only real outlet for a superhero fix.
Lotro mostly now; I always have something to do there. My wife and I play it together which makes it more fun. I have a couple of weeks left on my resurrected EQ2 account, but I'm not going to keep that going. (I had missed playing monks.)
I've been playing some stuff on the Wii and Ps3 too. Right now Super Paper Mario and Boxing for the Wii and NHL 08 on the PS3.
I want to take some time to run through the Drake's Fortune demo so I can get better at aiming. If I get ok with it I will buy that game.
I've been playing quite a bit of CoD4 (Xbox 360) mostly. That game is a ton of fun online and the games come quick. Other than that, I've been messing around with NHL 08 and looking to pick up Rock Band this weekend.
The Dark Brotherhood quest-line is awesome!Quote:

Some FFX on PS2. It's sorta on the back burner now, I played it a lot over spring break.
Right now I can only take small bites of anything, it's just too busy.
WoW - maybe 10 hours a week counting weekends right now
C&C3 - for my 30 minutes or less RTS needs
SSB: Brawl - I play this with Junior for about a half hour a night
Viva Pinata - At this point in time I probably play this more than anything although I suspect that'll change in a week or two. I'll go back to Bioshock after I finally get this freaking chippopotamus.
SSBB and Resident Evil IV on my Wii. Not doing much on my PC at the moment.
Eve-Online (Still good)
Metroid (NES) on virtual console
I went back to playing WoW about a month ago - after having quit it back in December of 2005. After playing/trying various MMO's in the meantime, my appreciation for WoW has grown.
I'm playing a Paladin, currently level 48 and Retribution spec'd. Generally enjoying myself.
Lotro, but mainly on weekends.
Spider Solitaire.
Desktop Tower Defense.
Sonic the Hedgehog, some kind of free side-scroller game that I play with my kids.
I would say that I am looking for a game to really get wrapped up in, but I'm not. RL is more my priority than gaming.
God of War: Chains of Olympus. Just finished the game and Challenge of Hades. Will probably go through on God difficulty now.
LOTRO
CoD4
Sins of a Solar Empire
WoW - Twink 19 Rogue is WSG on easy mode.
I've finally gotten my doctor's permission to return to Kali, so that's taking up a lot of time again now, too.
Lost Oddysey, I posted this in the Xbox 360 thread...
but my impression is that it has that epic feel I liked from FF7. While it recycles some themes and archetypes, I love the cinematics and the story-telling involved when the main character remembers something.
I've been playing Titan Quest. Not my favorite style of game, but I'm enjoying the ties to Greek mythology. For the $4 or whatever I paid for it, it's certainly entertaining enough.
I just started Final Fantasy IX again. Only played through it once years ago but I have good memories of it. It was a great Final Fantasy but one that never gained a lot of publicity.
My wife got a PSP and FFVII Crisis Core tonight. That will be her game for a while.
Assasin's Creed
WoW
WoW, switching in between levelling my feral druid and gearing up my Resto Shammy. I've gone into "can't stand to do dailies"-mode, and that is seriously impacting my WoW cash flow. *sigh*
Super Mario Galaxy - up to 95 stars now, Junior is determined that we complete it, but some of the comet stars are _really_ pissing me off.
I've preordered Mario Kart for the Wii, it's coming out here on april 11th. Can't wait :grinno:
LOTRO
Up to 43 now and almost GM tailor.
civ3 with warhammer mod from www.civfanatics.com. Orcs suck, go Slann.
ditched 9dragons on lvl 60sh as nuker, too boring to continue killing 1E06 mobs.
Well, since my 360 is broke, again I'm playing:
PC - Civ4 for now, but, just ordered Tabula Rasa for $10, so will play that for at least a month
PS2 - God of War 2 - Stuck on a boss battle
XBox - Mafia, picked up for $5, so giving it a shot
Mostly Vanguard and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.
Also some Civ 4, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Brawl, but I don't have nearly as much time for those.
Bouncing between EVE Online, Soulstorm, Company of Heroes and Half Life: Episode 2
My brother put me onto Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean online.
Been playing for a bout a week now...
Shallow, yet surprisingly fun gameplay. MMO light, not for serious hard-core raiders.
I finished Overlord on the sort of evil path, the end game was kind of disappointing. You go through the whole game with no real story, and then they sort of hoist one on you, meh. Creepy connotations abound as they don't adquately explain it either.
For the most part the game was a highly enjoyable parody on fantasy. One of the funniest parts of the game was when you wereSpoiler for mid game quest spoiler:
I was going to play it again on the supremely evil path, but got an intense rts craving and started playing command and conquer 3 instead. I am not impressed at all with skirmish variety and balance, but it is still a sort of dumb fun. The game seems designed around constant rushing.
The single player is surprisingly fun though. Not because of the "story", but because some of the missions are dang hard! All the constant mega rushing with defenses that aren't worth jack, man.
Still playing crisis core on the side, they did a good job of making it portable, so that's how I've been treating it.
P.S. Props on Independence War, old and niche! :p I never got around to playing that one. :(
Not a lot of game time or anything else the last 10 days or so.
But before that I was playing Drakes Fortune / CoD4 / Assassins Creed. I had just started Oblivion as well.
EverQuest
Actually just retired from this, and MMORPGs in general. My mid-level guild just broke up (thanks for SoF mudflation, SOE!), I've hit the collect-15-more-macguffins-from-these-even-BIGGER-rats wall, and RL just doesn't allow for hours upon hours every night anymore.
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Had never played this before now. It was surprisingly addictive, but got old quick, I'm about done with it. Once you've beaten all the major objectives, there's not much more to it -- one can only sink so many treasure galleons.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3
Again, had never played this, so far it's a hoot. Riding the coasters you make is way cooler than I would have expected.
Civ 4 BTS
Still mixing in the occasional campaign of the Greatest Game Ever.
WoW - I continue on, albeit with fewer hours put in each week.
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - I finally tracked down a copy in good condition, after having bad luck getting a copy back when it was new. Perhaps not the greatest TBS/RPG title, but certainly a lot of fun. Hopefully later this year I can get a Wii and try Radiant Dawn.
The Sims 2 - It's a guilty pleasure.
NEWB!Quote:

Radiant Dawn is MUCH better than PoR, IMO. Definitely worth the effort it took to track down a Wii to play it.Quote:

Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (plus expansions). As Spiffe said above, a lot more fun than I really expected. The coaster riding bit has been done really well.
Eve Online : Bit on and off at the moment. Waiting for a headset & micophone to arrive so I get get onto teamspeak and progress further. Otherwise just mucking round on the test server.
Supreme Commander : Working my way through single player. Pretty fun so far.
just installed WoW again
sigh
I grabbed Sins of a Solar Empire based on this thread, and I have to say I'm enjoying it so far.

that-korean-mmorpg-i-forgot-the-name-of.
and feel somewhat strange i never really tried to play civ4 & SoaSE after install... these things do take like 15 mins to install really.
civ4 my units never won a fight in first 5-6 rounds, so i ditched it.
WoW, the occasional campaign in Medieval 2 and Civ 4 BTS.
WoW, NWN2 (never finished it first time around, the computer couldn't handle it) Sins of a Solar Empire, the odd Civ 4 map. Sadly, Civ 4 seems to be a bit of a roll backwards from even Civ2 (one of the greatest games ever made IMO)
WOW and Bioshock on the PC.
Fucking game ate my save file :(
WoW, Everquest, FFVII :P

Downloading EQ1 Titanium edition so I can play on an emulated server.
Time commitments is making me retire From MMOs in general and WoW in particular. Wish I had more time for them, but I just don't
Playing DSII right now, then I will finish of some other games I never completed including Witcher, Vampire: Bloodlines, Nightmare before Christmas Xbox game, and a few others that have been collecting dust while WoW had been monopolizing my gaming time.

I had actually bought it right before my 360 broke but returned it since I couldn't play it.
I couldn't stand eternal sonata. I know JRPG's are suppossed to be on rails, but unlike Lost Oddsey it really, *really* felt like it was just corridor + room + corridor syndrome. PLus I though the combat sucked...
Wierd though, because I adored Baiten Kaitos, the last big game they did. Thought that was clever, original and had a great storyline.
Good thing I didn't buy it then, eh?Quote:

Lost Odyssey barely gives you more freedom than Eternal Sonata. The style of the latter is a matter of taste, obviously. I actually liked the combat system, though. That whole light/dark thing was a nice touch.Quote:

The story is horrendous but I love the combat and the art is excellent. The problem I have is that the game is too easy and you have to beat the game to get the hard mode. I *HATE* when games do that. I'd be having much more fun if the enemies had double defense and 1.5x damage like they do on encore mode. Instead I'm trying to find the perfect combos to defeat harmless trash in the least amount of rounds. The bosses are pretty fun but still a little too easy.Quote:

I can block like 90% of the time fine, but am I really supposed to identify which button it is that quick to counterattack? Is there a way to tell which moves are counterable or is it random? I've done it a few times and barely even get off many attacks (sometimes none, but it does make the damage 0 and interrupt further attacks I guess)
Lately I've been playing Total Overdose. I have no idea where it came from, possibly from my brother in law. But its been a hoot. Fairly politically incorrect, great music, fun missions, light-hearted cheese just right for tension relief. People have described it as a GTA clone, and from what I know of GTA (never played any of them) it fits.
CoD4, Rock Band for 360 and Smash for Wii
Mana Khemia for the PS2 and I have been converting and adding old playstation games in order to replay them on the PSP and right now that means Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story.
CoH/CoV or C&C3.
Can only muster up enough energy to play for 30-60 minutes at a time and those two games you can feel like you achieved something in that time frame.
Can't believe the hate for Civ4! Do you have the Beyond the Sword expansion? I find it so much better than Civ3.
So I was at Frys yesterday actually doing some market research for my job, and I had some time and I wandered over to the game section. Couple quick questions I have about games I saw.
1. Oblivion
Is Oblivion better as a console game or a PC game?
Which was it developed for?
Do the controls and combat type feel more natural on the Xbox or a PC? How good are the expansions? Looks like ther are 3-4 now.
Morrowind had horrible graphics, I couldn't make myself play it, Are they really well evolved, or do they still have a bit of that chuncky look?
2. Shadow run.
Similar questions about Console vs. PC
How close is it to the original concept: Cyber Punk with elves and wizards?
General question about both of them. What kind of fun factor do they have?
How is the lore for each of these games?
Do they make you feel involved in the world as it changes.
Are they churn factory Cog in a wheel games or do you feel like your character is the hero?
First of all, you might have a misconception about Shadowrun because of it's history. One of the biggest sources of complaints about that game was that it abused the license, it isn't really the same type of game at all. The new Shadowrun is a multiplayer only FPS like Team Fortress 2. Yeah.
1) Oblivion
Way better as a PC game simply because you can mod the heck out of it. Adding both amusing new user made content, and fixing some of the crap that is wrong with the game itself. It was designed for both. It's a very obvious PC based rpg, but it has a few elements (such as the interface) that were obviously designed to be console friendly.
Haven't played on 360, or expansions. Oblivion has great graphics. Faces are sometimes pretty bad, but the rest is good. Morrowind was hard to stand in comparison.
Oblivion sort of fun. Fun level goes up if you like to wander around aimlessly and just explore a great huge world. Oblivion fun goes down if you get caught up on how bad the game mechanics are (mod that sucker!) Oblivion fun also goes down if you try and do everything, you end up getting carried away and never actually finishing the game. ;)
Lore is huge in Oblivion, youcan read in-game books for no other reason than to read background lore. I would suppose that for the last two questions, that Oblivion makes your character feel like an important part in the world as it changes. NPCs will remember what you do and react accordingly in a few instances.
2) Shadowrun
Since I don't think this is what you had in mind, I'll keep it short.
The game was tons and tons of fun, but I don't know if anyone even plays it anymore. It had problems getting accepted at launch, the studio shut down, etc etc.
It was designed with consoles in mind, but works perfectly on both. It is crossplatform, and as a result plays exactly how you might think. Like the secret love child of Halo and Counterstrike. It was great. Lore low, original concept abanadoned, it might have done better if it never used that license at all.
Yeah, this has always baffled me as well. The haters and I already flamed each other about it in a previous thread, though, so I figured I wouldn't derail this one to fight about it.Quote:

They should just make NFS:MW2 for this Christmas... no easier way to milk the cow than that. Most Wanted lasted me around 70 hours.
Having beaten Eternal Sonata and watched the most nonsensical ending I have ever seen in my life, I am moving on back to Devil May Cry 4.
I beat C&C3 and it's expansion (which was far easier, but also more interesting) not long after my last post in this thread. Crisis Core took the next few weeks to beat. It wasn't a long game, but I just didn't have as much time to play lately.
Hit and miss game, here is my summary of the ebb and flow of its story. Good-->Stupid-->Good-->Stupid-->Good. The ending was exactly what I expected and overall pretty great. Zack turned out to be a really great character. I've still got 50% completion worth of side quests to do, but they are getting so annoying that I'm not sure I want to spend the next twenty hours doing them.
What I'm playing now now, Bully and The World Ends With You. A few people have mentioned the latter already. This is one of the most unique games I have played in a long time. The dual screen gameplay is very hard to get used to, I would be tempted to just let the AI take over at the top and play the bottom since it is awesome enough on its own already, but that sort of feels like missing out on half the point of the game. Then you have the food that raises stats over the course of real life days, and an equipment system that amounts to following or starting fashing trends.
I'm only in the first few hours of the game and there are already tons of ways of attacking enemies. Slash an object to telekinetically throw it at them, tap empty air to fire energy bullets, slash the enemy to cut it, drag the stylus across the ground to make a path of fire, on and on and on. I went a few days without playing, and when I turned it on again a bunch of my abilities leveled up from "rest exp". I hear you can also get exp when you come in contact with another DS.
The dialogue in the game amuses me, usually when a game tries to be hip by using modern vernacular it fails horribly, I feel they did a pretty good job. My intelligence doesn't feel insulted, and it's funny when the main character says that someone is "full of fail as usual". He isn't as insufferably emo as I heard from certain reviewers. He is a jerk though, much to my amusement. It's about time we have a main character that ignores yapping he isn't interested in and just walks off without a word. :D
Also, I absolutely love the music. Yes this was worth its own paragraph. Surprisingly, it's not very japanesy at all. (so far)
I ended up playing Bully partly because of all the GTA4 hype. It's basically GTA lite, except instead of crime it's full of pranks and childish hijinks. This amuses me because not only was I never a troublemaker, I never had experience with fighting cliques. It's like I was the social rosetta stone growing up.
It got a lot of attention before release because people thought it was going to be a game specifically about being a bully, but it's actually more about fighting bullies. I also have a theory that the title is referring to the principal/dean, although it might be referring to the psychopath that befriends you when you arrive at the school.
It's not as open ended as I thought it was going to be. I was given the impression balancing cliques(factions) was going to take more effort and choice. Right now I can only talk to the nerds, while its possible other cliques require unlocking, I am sort of getting the impression story progression is going to determine things more than anything else. Each school day is also shorter than I expected, maybe 10-15 minutes.
The npcs have a lot of humor and life of their own as well. They will wander around the school doing the same things you can do. Playing pranks, starting fights, having conversations (some of which are highly amusing). You might hear a nerd ask you if you have ever played grumblorks and grobloks, or hear your psychopath friend talking to himself about being off his meds, etc.
P.S.
