Bill Buckner, my favorite player when I was little, passed away today. He was more famous for a certain missed ground ball in Boston, but I always remember him as a Cub.

As good as he was as a ballplayer, and he was quite good, he would not be appearing in this discussion thread if not for the booted ball in Game 6.
I might have put him in here...depending on my mood. As I said, he was my favorite player back when I was barely old enough to know what a favorite player was. He helped introduce me to baseball. But as far as anyone else on here? Yeah, most probably wouldn't know who he was.
I used to watch Cub's baseball on WGN all the time when I was in college and he was playing for them. Sucks he will live on in infamy for that one ground ball, even though he was a damn good hitter. I saw a graphic yesterday that showed between 1970 and 1989 the only player with more hits than Buckner was Pete Rose.

People forget now, but at the time, it was one of those "trial of the century" type of deals.

Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs dead at 27
Funny anecdote... the Twitter hashtag #RIP45 was trending for a while yesterday, in his honor. At this same time, there was some unknown emergency in Washington that caused VP Pence's plane to have to turn around and return to the airport either just before or just after takeoff (conflicting stories) and Pence was rushed back to the White House. We still don't know why, but supposedly we'll find out "in a few weeks".

But, the fact that this happened during the #RIP45 trending caused some people to be very disappointed

He invented the minivan which was probably one of the most important automotive changes in history. And honestly as a family hauler the minivan is still to this day superior to the SUV or crossover in pure utility.

My Dad isn't a recreational reader - you could count the number of books he's read for pleasure on one hand. Iacocca's biography is one of those books.
