Not a famous person, but the mother of a (Canadian) famous person: Hélène Rowley Hotte, 93, likely of exposure. She's the mother of former Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe. As someone with a mother in a care home, reading about this horrifies me:

The low in Montreal on Sunday was -21 degrees Celsius (-6 degrees Fahrenheit). With wind chill, it would have felt -29 / -19.

One of the all-time all-around greats of baseball:
Hall of Famer Frank Robinson dies at 83
Too old for most of us here to have seen him, but his numbers speak for themselves, his teammates' recollections of him speak almost as much. Pioneering manager, too.
Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
Former Congressman John Dingell (D-Michigan) and longest serving representative ever has died in Dearborn, Mi. at the age of 92.
He was a page in Congress when Roosevelt delivered the Day of Infamy Speech, and rose to Congress on his father's death in 1955, following his father's efforts working in Congress to achieve Medicare in the 1960's (and never gave up on his family's fight for Universal Health Care in the US) and some of the first and most impactful environmental protection regulations.
Obama's 2014 SOTU was Dingell's last in office. He allowed Nancy Pelosi to use the gavel he used when he presided over the House when Medicare was passed when she presided over the passage of Obamacare.

The US space agency (Nasa) has called time on its Opportunity Mars rover.
The six-wheeled robot last contacted Earth in June last year, just before it was enveloped in the darkness of a global dust storm.
Engineers hoped Oppy would power back up when the skies cleared and sunlight hit its solar panels again - but there has not been a peep out of the rover.
The routine prompt commands that have been sent to Opportunity will now end.

Not bad... 13 years for a mission that was only expected to be a few months at most. Well, done Opportunity!

Bruno Ganz, 77. What, you don't know Bruno Ganz? I bet you've seen his portrayal of Hitler in 2004's "Downfall":

A pitcher perhaps underappreciated these days, but once upon a time, he was someone no batter wanted to face:
Don Newcombe, first man to win Rookie of the Year, MVP and Cy Young, dies at 92
