For example: A warlock starts off only knowing how to use a dagger, and a mage starts off only knowing how to use a staff. Now, if you loot a kickass staff as a warlock, instead of selling it or giving it to a friend, you can spend two skill points and learn how to wield it yourself.
Paladins start off knowing how to use 1-hand and 2-hand maces/hammers to begin with, and that's it. They can, if they choose, buy 1-hand and 2-hand swords (seperately) as well. Warriors in particular have a vast array of weapon skills they can buy after they reach certain levels.
