Some people in EQ didn't feel that druids were desirable enough for groups, that rez would go a long way in changing that. They also hated that the clerics had a monopoly on "healing" as in always being demanded for groups thus shutting druids out. Druids could heal somewhat, but the cleric rez trumped anything else the druid brought to the group so they wanted the ability to rez.Quote:

I think it's just a matter of time before people start to accept that WoW druid != EQ druid and that the WoW version is just going to be different than what they are used to in EQ. The same has been true for every class that has been released so far.
Thanks Pedi and Demetrius for the answers. :)
Huh, seems like people spend more time trying to make things fit their preconceptions than experiencing and enjoying the creative license other people take with old concepts. Not that that's any great revelation or anything. c.c
I still can't wait to shout STRENGTH OF THE BEAR when shifting to that form. :D
I can't believe any druid in EQ wanted rez. I mean really, as a druid i got bugged to go odd places and pick someone up for a port to somewhere, but i don't even wanna imagine the tells I would have gotten if druids had rez. Last thing I wanted was a tell for me to leave where I was to go somewhere and have someone bitch when i say no because "but you can port right there! it'll only take a second" ugh. The [in]complete heals druids got were bad enough (yea, I hate healing spells that take 10 seconds to cast too).
As for WoW, without playing it i cannot say if druids need a rez spell or not. They sound cool enough to play without a rez spell, shapeshifting just sounds so awesome
What's up with ambient form? Last I heard it was in, now you guys say it's not? There goes half the coolness of the Druid already, rez spell or no.
My first post here (took a long long time to read the entire thread, it's now at 45 pages!!).
First of all: Great job on the write-up and answering all kinds of questions! Thanks a bunch for that!
And I'll keep it short, with three questions of my own (which I didn't see addressed as such here), if you have time to answer ;)
1. On keys. I read that some keys can be customized and that the default move keys are asdw. Is it possible to customize the asdw keys to the cursor keys as well? (or is this really not reccommended?)
2. On (pointy) hats. I always hated how your character's hair disappears entirely when you equip a helm/cap of some sorts in EverQuest, no matter how long your hair initially was. Can you tell me whether hair is just all removed in WoW as well, or do things like braids etc. stick out from underneath?
3. On Time. I read (in another article I got redirected to) that there's going to be a 24 hour time cycle. Of course wanting to experience the world of WoW both at day- and nighttime, it would be good to know what defines the time-of-day. Is this dependant on your computer's clock, current time at the server's location, or other (like dependant on when the servers came up)? Anything at all you alpha and beta testers can say about this?
Thanks and kudos :)
(edit: added a quick question I had forgotten, here rather than making a separate post)
1. You can re-map all of your keys to whatever you like or are comfortable with. I have my movement keys set up to match my EQ keys, same with some hotkeys. it's pretty painless too.
2. Currently when you put on a hat, your hair goes poof. Not sure i like this as some hats really aren't going to cover up all your hair (most helms do though). Not sure on the status of this, if it's going to be changed eventually or not.
3. There is currently a 24-hour time cycle in WoW. This is going to be changed to something more frequent last i heard so that everyone can experience the world in both day and night.
That's what I'd like. I have fixed timeslots when I can play games, like after 11 p.m, and I don't want to play the game forever stuck in the WoW night-time with no chance of seeing the world in daylight or dusk/dawn :)Quote:

Just pointing out something I've seen in reference to the whole discussion on this thread about PvP vs PvE.
Just wanted to expand on Telegareth's reply about the hats -- it doesn't disappear completely like in EQ. Your character still has hair, but it's more like the hair being upswept and tucked into the hat. ;)
And I have seen hats that just frame the face and leaves the hair intact. I guess it all depends on what style you're looking for.
Lirana's sig in this thread is a good example of what hair looks like with a hat on:

Oh hey Pedi, I just wanted to say I dig your new avatar. She's pretty hot. :)
Thanks! :) Friend drew it for me. You can see the full size image here: http://www.azerothsstudio.org/phpBB4...opic.php?t=389
I'm pretty sure she does commissions if you want her art style for your characters.
I ended up finding that after I had to register for the forum for the last link you posted. It's really great and I like that person's style.Quote:

Er, anyway. Yeah. Any, uh, new insights on the game? (Trying to stay on topic)
That said, I've heard that you can't redefine the key for the console. It just doesn't show up in the redefine keys list at all. This is serious bad news for some people such as myself, in the UK, because for whatever reason the console is hard-bound to the apostrophe key. Meaning words like "isn't" and "it's" pop up the console halfway through, which is possibly one of the most annoying experiences I've ever had in a game.Quote:

Eeeps! I didn't realize you had to register! I will look into that and make some changes, np.
Thanks for the answers and the link.
When I first read about the 24 hour cycle I did like the idea (gives an entirely new perspective to the game) but it indeed made me fear I might be seeing only day time (or worse: play eternally in game-night-time). I hope they do still keep the cycle longer than the EverQuest cycles (which are between 60 and 90 minutes I think).
One other thing I'm a little worried about, concerning keys, is whether special keys are mapped by default, like for example 'tilde' ( ~ ). All of America (I think) and most of Europe are using the US keyboard layout, but where I live we have a localised keyboard layout. The normal keys are where they are for everyone else (we do use the qwerty layout), but special characters are all moved around the place, some behind a special key, namely as 'alt-gr' (as special alt key). So above the TAB key we have ˝ and § signs, not one of the quotation marks and I think that's where tilde also normally is. A character like ^ we can't even access in many games, like for example EverQuest (this because it is behind alt-gr). This brings me to another question: is it easy to redefine keys via an .ini file if nothing else works?
Oh (edited), and another thing about keyboard localisation (but you guys may not have answers about that for me)... EverQuest previously (about half a year ago, or earlier) forced US layout on us, which made typing special characters awkward (as they were not where not at the places where we were used to, so when we tried to end a question with a questionmark we got _ or something). Nowadays EQ doesn't do this anymore, they have obviously changed that. The main question is here, do you know whether anything is already being tested in WoW concerning different keyboard layouts etc.? ;) I hope there's going to be a beta for our region (or open beta) where we can test this.
seems we french will get the same trouble than you about keys
It's kind of odd because when I clicked on the link from home (usually I'm at work when I'm reading this stuff) it took me right in without asking me to log in. So, I dunno what it's problem was. *shrug*Quote:

I think Pedi changed something, because I could see where her avatar came from without registering, when i couldnt earlier. however i still cant get to the first one she posted without registering.
Hey, long time visitor to Graffes / board lurker here. I play a wizzy on Lanys anyhoo...
A few questions.
1: I think I saw in the screenshot thread pics of a troll with a lightning orb. I take this to mean that there are orbs like in WC3 that add elemental damage to your attacks? if so, what slot would do they take up and are they mob drops, quest rewards or player crafted? I loved the orbs in WC3 and were one of my favorite items for my heros to get.
2: I know that hunters have been removed for further tweaking, however I am under the impression they were available in alpha. If so when do you gain the ability to go and tame your first pet, and is it part of a quest?
3: looking at the Stratics skills and talents database Stratics that there used to be a talent called "sneaky". I understand the talents portion of the game is under revamp, however am I correct in assuming anyone could gain stealth and be sneaky? Or was this a rogue only talent?
Well, I guess thats all for now. A big thanks to Whiz, Pedi, Vashanti and everyone else providing this intimate look at life as a beta tester :D
Hope to join you in beta soon. Don't let the B-Netters ruin our game ;)
