im a nut for the warcraft storyline incase you hadnt figured.

From what I've gathered, the Lich King is mentioned in many places, especially by the Forsaken. Arthas's undead forces even have a few scattered camps located in various places.

Personally, I was REALLY hoping that the undead in the game were serving Arthas. I loved being the evil guys, Kel'Thuzad was awesome. I also loved that Sylvanas was ressurected to be a slave, but hated when she became free of the Lich King. The Forsaken are.... Meh... the wanna-be new evils in town.

Yes, thats one reason Im not going to even consider the Undead as one of my characters, because I enjoyed the fact that i was serving the Lich King, especially Arthas.

I was an Illidan fanboy up until the end of the Frozen Throne campaign, now Arthas is just one of my all time favorite characters in a fantasy storyline.

Sylvanas is only worthy of a 'meh', and Varimathras is a wimp, and I don't want to represent them.

Trust me, the Forsaken aren't wanna be evil at all. They're DEFINITELY evil, although I doubt all the players will play them that way.

Those serving the Scourge don't usually have free will (the first Scourge you fight as the undead are even called "Mindless Ones"), so they aren't very suitable as PC races in any case.

And the Scourge controls the largest part of the Lordaeron continent, and contest every area that the Forsaken allegedly control. (In point of fact, the Forsaken control the Undercity and that's it -- every other area is being contested by the Scourge, the Scarlet Crusade, the Alliance and various factions that have sprung up from the ruins.)

I fully realize that the Forsaken are, in fact, very evil, but they don't hold a candle to the ruthlessness and fierceness of the Lich King's forces. Besides.... I wanted to have the option of being a Ghoul at character creation.

Even if most of Arthas's forces are mindless, a good few don't seem to be, namely Arthas himself, All of the banshee's, Necromancers, the Shades, Acloytes(sp), Kel'Thuzad, and, of course, Sylvanas.

Well, if Northrend isn't in (and it doesn't seem to be), it's probably going to be an expansion. And if that's the case, you can cross your fingers for a Scourge faction being added. Send in those e-mails!

Sylvanas freed HERSELF from the lich king's influence when arthas was weakened , along with some banshee , varimathras wich wasnt controlled anyway , just a traiterous demon , while imho Sylvana and her banshee followers does mind control most of the other forsaken . My opinion about that matter is even increased by sylvana's and co multiple possessions and mind controls over alive or udnead ennemy forces .

Who are the Scarlet Crusade?
I have completed all the Warcraft games, but I can't recollect any mention of a Scarlet Crusade, but then my memory absolutely awful when it comes to such things. :)

Oh and what other "various factions"?

well there are so many possible good factions left unexploited :p

Illidan's one : naga+blood elves+draenei
the burning legion (maybe too overpowered too play)
The lich king's scourge (well maybe overpowered as well )

as for the free will and possibilities of roleplay , its not really a problem , many enjoy in others games and would enjoy playing evil chars loyal toward a god , wich doesnt seems so far from teh scourge's system

the scarlet crusade is pretty much inquisition oriented , devoted to annihilating
all undead from the world .Those are remnants of Tirisfal Glades i believe . i even wonder if Proudsmoore's other daughter isnt in that group

Kilnar Goldensword was a high elf of some renown who studied magic in Dalaran. She grew to great power and respect over the many years of her life. During one of his many travels, Daelin Proudmoore encountered Kilnar, and their meeting resulted in a sordid love affair, which in turn resulted in Finnall Goldensword, a child Kilnar later gave birth to.

Finnall survived the destruction of Dalaran, though she was forced to watch her mother killed by Arthas himself. After that bloody battle, Finnall vowed to stay in Lordaeron and rid the land of this evil, or die trying

When Proudmoore returned to Lordaeron to search for Jaina, he found Finnall and tried to convince her to come with him, but she refused, believing that he was merely abandoning his home in search of easier battles. He tried to reason with her, saying that Lordaeron was lost, but Finnall rebuked him as a traitor and left on her own.

Finnall continued to harass the Scourge and Forsaken forces.

Now, when you say contest, is it just between Scourge NPCs and Forsaken PCs? Or will we get to watch some larger battles between scourge and forsaken NPCs?

If they make the burning legion a playable race in an expansion or something, I guarantee I'd be at least one burning legion character.

like about every warcraft fan , another reason of it being overpowered :p

The overpowered thing might bother me, I'd prefer it to be balanced with the other races otherwise some of the fun would be lost.

Just wanted to add my opinion here, but I think Sylvanas is a compelling character. She's remarkable in being one of the first undead to have free will. Both she and Arthas have been driven by necessity into evil. Arthas first in his quest to destroy the Scourge and save his land, then Sylvanas in just wanting to survive. Both of them were also driven by vengence.

Anyway, she got her freedom but not a release from undeath, and she chose to keep pursuing vengence. Also, Varimathras is unusual because he broke from the Legion, so he's kind of cut loose from what he knows as well.

As much as I love Arthas as a character, I think the Foresaken are still pretty cool.

And remember kids, the moral of the story is that seeking revenge leads to undeath, so it's better to forgive and forget! :)

Kinda makes ya think, if Arthas hadn't destroyed the ships in the human campaign in wc3...
