Re: Marvel lays out Phase 5
The script for The Marvels needed another draft (or two) before being filmed. There were too many major and minor plot holes, and/or consequential coincidences for the movie to sustain any sort of immersion.
There definitely were some nice set pieces, but the bits connecting them needed to be a bit more fleshed out.
As far as PPatty's point about target audience - totally valid point. If anything it emphasizes the need for tighter writing, in part to immunize against criticisms that it's just a vehicle for promoting feminist views, etc (especially with the MCU's history in this regard, such as the ham-fisted "girl-power" scene in Endgame).
The Barbie movie is probably the best recent example of a film making its point, while also being a solid, well-made film in its own right.

Here you go, a trailer for MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF PHASE 5:

I may or may not give a try. Kathryn Hahn is great, but the specific character doesn't hook me at all, so the whole premise means nothing to me; and I have a bunch of other non-Marvel things on my list that I still haven't watched.

Guess Kang died on the way back to his home universe
 didn't expect this, Disney must have really shit their pants after all the bombs last year

Re: Marvel lays out Phase 5
Peter Parker is really not going to handle meeting Doom well.
Re: Marvel lays out Phase 5
Yeah Peter Parker has had a rough past few movies.
Hopefully Dr. Doom goes well enough that RDJ can take over the role of T'Challa and do Black Panther 3 in Phase 7.
Re: Marvel lays out Phase 5
I wasn't planning to watch it, but after hearing some good word of mouth I checked out Agatha All Along. The first episode is a bit slow but it picks up nicely in the second, I like the direction its headed. Should be a fun thing to watch leading up to Halloween.
Re: Marvel lays out Phase 5
Episode 7 of Agatha All Along was fantastic, probably one of the best episodes of anything I have seen this year. The series has been a fun watch so far, much more enjoyable and cohesive compared to most disney+ shows.
Re: Marvel lays out Phase 5
As a man that would go out of his way to watch Aubrey Plaza interviews, and tidbits of thing she is in, I feel like they are using her to pander to the audience they have focused on getting.
Good for them, but i couldn't get my head around enough of it to want to conitnue watching it.
Re: Marvel lays out Phase 5
I enjoyed Agatha All Along. I wasn't particularly invested in the character or premise, but it made a good spooky month activity in lieu of the horror games I usually play. Thought the first few episodes were kind of weak/formulaic but it does get more interesting.
I also finally got around to watching the Marvels. It was fine. Better than I was expecting. My main criticism is that it felt like they were trying to fit a three hour movie into two hours, with scenes constantly jumping around. Even the (extremely wooden) character development scenes begin and end before you can blink. I feel like I criticize Marvel movies for this a lot, but it was even more hyperactive this time.
Worth it for the cat herding scene though.

That's exactly how I felt. For what it's worth, I thought it was interesting watching Hahn act like a lunatic. Agatha flips between the manipulative evil everyone perceives her to be and a normal person so often that I can't tell which is more "real" for the character.

I agree with all of this. Just finished binging it, and while I did very much enjoy it — this might be the 2nd best Marvel series so far behind Wandavision — I worry that Season 2 will be a letdown. But I'm still gonna give it a shot whenever it comes around.

Fantastic Four was great, better than I was expecting. It honestly felt like a Star Trek episode with its pacing.

Agreed. Fantastic Four is the best marvel movie in years. It almost feels like a soft reboot but it certainly makes sense on how Robert Downey Jr. can be Dr. Doom. Not sure how they will have him be in Latveria rather than the US but I guess we'll see.
