hi everyone. first i would like to thank for the massive amount of information. the only drawback is that it got my eys hurting. poor me :D
i have a few quesions so if you can help me i would greatly appriciate it.
Where do you start as a Warlock?(precise location) if your a

What do you do when you first land in the world?
Speak to a trainer?
Memorise your spells?
Anything else?
If you speak to a trainer straight away, what is their name if your a

Ok, this is a really really long thread and other than the first page of posts I havn't took the time to read any of it. I read a journal over talent/skill points but it didn't answer my curiousity's. I'm an addict to Everquest, and in Everquest when you first train something, tradeskills, combat abilities, it goes up gradually the more you use it. Is this the same in WoW?
*Edit* And if so, is it based on an attribute like int or wis?
It is the same with your weapon skills (1 hand sword, mace, staff, dagger, etc. as well as you magic stills such as Holy magic, fire magic, nature magic, etc.) Your tradeskills such as tailoring/smithing/herbalist/etc. will go up to the maxumum allowable for your rank. Apprentice rank gives you a maximum of 75 skill in a tradeskill, Journeyman up to 150 skill, Expert up to 225 skill. You spend Skill Points to go up in rank in tradeskills, your skill in tradeskills increases with use.
It's not Everquest where each class starts out in a different part of town. All humans, regardless of class, start out in the same newbie town. Ditto for the other races. I apologize for not knowing the name of each newbie town -- I will have to look them up.Quote:

Plus when the "memorization" of a spell only consists of a trainer telling you that it'll cost like 10 copper to train in a spell and when you agree to it, it's instantly scribed in your spellbook (or ability book). No need to buy a scroll, sit down and memorize it.
Pets are quested. You find the warlock trainer (always nearby) and do a series of quests to "earn" your pet. Vash can answer this better. I think you can get the imp as early as level 3 or 4. Voidwalkers come at level 10. Succubus come at level 20. Felhounds come at 30.Quote:

You start out with the basic newbie outfit, depending on your class. If you're a mage, you have a robe. If you're a rogue, you have a black cloth outfit. You also come equipped with the basic newbie weapon for your class. You also get two spells already memorized if you're a spell caster.Quote:

Do you think there will ever be spells that come from scrolls? I liked being able to go get a spell for a friend who was having trouble finding it, or was offline at the time and needed it or something. Also do you have to travel halfway across the world just to get one spell because its only sold in one location? It always irritated me about EQ that while this guy had most of my lvl whatever spells, there were like 2-3 I had to run between 3 different cities to get.Quote:

I do know there are tradeskill trainers you have to set out and find if you want to learn a specific recipe. I know there's one engineer in the wetlands marsh surrounded by crocs. I think it's designed to keep low levels from running there and learning the skill before they're ready. So while you may have to find secret areas for tradeskills, I don't think it applies to spells. Plus there are recipes that drops from mobs in the game which you can give to your friends.
The paladin can gain the resurrect spell via a quest, the reward is a book which when right clicked, scribes the spell in your book for you.
Yes, there are quests for some spells, like Warlock pet spells, but they're not the same as dropped recipes for tradeskills, sorta like Kunark dropped spells are in EQ. :) Good point, though.

Do spells take time to memorize (or whatever it is you do so you can cast them)? It always irritated me that if I died with some low level guy, it'd take like 5 minutes to mem spells (especially when I was messing around with a bard ugh)

No, you don't need to memorize spells in any way, shape, or form. You just pay the trainer the fee and WHOOSH, gold sparks fly out from you indicating that you've just been trained in the spell. Open up your spellbook and it's there. Just drag it from the spellbook to your hotkey bar. All done. If you die, all your spells are still in the same hotkey spots. No re-memorization necessary.
And yes, at level 1, you already have two spells memorized and ready to go on your hotkeys. Level 2 is the earliest you can begin to purchase additional spells. (i.e. you can't buy more spells at level 1.)

I don't know if anyone knows the exact start stats yet, but there are going to be differences. I'd expect they'd be logical, i.e. Tauren gets more strength than Gnome.
I'd also like to thank the testers here for the info. This thread has been linked to by just about every WoW site I know of now (and many forums where WoW is being discussed; for example, I came from the SomethingAwful.com forums origionally). The info here was really great and got me interested in tis game. I've got a few questions that maybe some of you will have insight on:
1. Are certain dungeons Alliance/Horde only? For instance, I've seen a lot of stuff on Deadmines. Will the Horde be able to access this also?
2. From what I understand, you have to seek out quests so that when you kill stuff, you can go back to NPC X and get extra bonus XP. Is there a danger of killing things without having the quest unlocked? For instance, if you beat the Deadmines before getting the pre-req quest order to go there, will this stop you from getting a certain reward?
3. How much stuff can you see in the opposing faction's territory before getting killed? Can you just not go into certain areas of towns, or is there a large area you can't go into?
I haven’t been to Deadmines myself personally (currently in the middle of moving across town so little time to play lately), but I am going to say that it’s a mix. I know Shadowfang Keep is KOS to both horde and alliance, but I don’t know if alliance people get quests to go into Shadowfang. There are non-instanced dungeons that the opposing faction can’t hunt in. For example, there is a non-instanced dungeon in Stonetalon Peak filled with alliance NPCs. The horde has to fight those people, but as an alliance character I can just walk in and around unharmed. I can even loot treasure chests in there with no problem. (The idea of looting a chest that a horde group has been trying to clear to sort of makes me laugh.)Quote:

In my experience, you just avoid certain areas. Just avoid towns that are marked as opposing faction and keep an eye out for roaming patrols and you’ll be OK. I was able to run through Loch Modan (dwarven area) on my undead character. I had a few patrols aggro me, but I was able to shake them off or outrun them. I also looked around the night elf lands on my troll, but I kept my distance whenever I saw a small area of night elf NPCs. The game is designed in a way that we will be expecting to cross paths with people of the opposing faction in passing. The major cities are heavily guarded and I support players of a different faction having a hard time getting in. (I was a little weirded out that I was able to sneak in Orgrimmar on my mage with invisibility. Didn’t feel right.)Quote:
