As a literary device, much of the second half of the novel is told by an unreliable third person narrator, starting with the incident at the school -- several incidents have a WTF quality about them as a result.Quote:

I recently got pointed at a free book site that lets you download them in a variety of hormats from html to microsoft reader. Some real gems in the list, definitely worth a visit if you enjoy the SciFi/Fantasy Genre.

The Rooster- I'll recommend Stranger in a Strange Land. It was my first Heinlein book. I don't know your age, but I had to get a not from my mom in order for the Librarian to check it out to me in the 6th grade. Some pretty wierd stuff, but a good book.

Personally, I am reading Clash of Kings right now. Storm of Swords is sitting on the shelf and I know it will be next. After that will probably be Canticle for Leibowitz or I may reread Brave New World. I will take a break and read the next Potter book when it comes out July 16th.
I am also reading a book called The Mastodon In My Living Room to my son, after which I am going to dive into the Encyclopedia Brown books with him. :p
I could recommend Stranger...
It's not Heinlein's best work - but I think all of his are worth reading -
If you want to try sampling some of Heinlein's works I would start with "Friday", "Glory Road", or "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress".
*I have never read Dune; a fact of which I am ashamed and intend to remedy soon. I couldn't find a copy at the bookstore we went to in Boston. :(
*I will have to re-read Chronicles before _Lion_ comes out.
*Currently re-reading: "The Dark Lord of Dirkholm" by D.W. Jones. Not your usual fantasy novel. Love it!

I don't remember any anti-gay stuff in Stranger...in fact at the end they had kind of a big poly relationship going with men and women.
I tried to read Dune, but I couldn't get into it. Maybe I didn't get far enough into it to get the hook, but it just wasn't doing it for me.Quote:

On those Greg Maguire books - I liked Wicked, thought it was a great concept but utterly lacked a sense of humor which i think would have made it enjoyable. Even worse was Mirror Mirror by him though with the Lucretia Borga story mixed in with Snow White and some really abstract dwarfism - felt compelled to finish it because I bought it in hard cover at full price.
Just noticed the new Goodkind "Richard Rahl" book in the store yesterday - bleedin' $42 Cdn though but I know I'll be getting it as soon as I finish the one I'm on.

I suspect that if Jill did say something like that then she meant more like everyone in the poly thing happens to be hetero, not that homo is forbidden or something. That would have been totally out of sync with the rest of the book.
There are specific gay scenes in lots of Heinlein's later books of course.
Well first off, WoW isn't the only thing I do it's just what I do to pass time while hoping someone will ask me to hang out or something. I have started working out again because I'm playing football next year and I'm starting the guitar up again (after stopping due to an awful teacher) when I get money from umpiring baseball games so I can buy myself a non-broken guitar.Quote:

But anyways on the topic of books, I guess the only thing I'd probably enjoy reading is fantasy. A couple books that partially caught my eye but I just never bothered with them was the Warcraft books so I guess stuff like that may be something to try.

Opinions seem mixed, but I recommend C.S. Freidman's Coldfire trilogy. One of the best anti-heroes in fantasy fiction, Gerald Terrant.
