I've got my finger pointed at Betty White by November. Don't know what I should wager except bragging/shame rights. She is 91 this year.

Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
You can do better than 91:
Zsa Zsa Gabor - 96.
Nelson Mandela - 95.
Prince Philip - 92.
Eli Wallach - 98.
Kirk Douglas - 97.
Olivia De Havilland - 97.
Billy Graham - 95.
A fair number of those are suffering serious illnesses, too.

Don't hate my pick and not pick one yourself. C'mon. Seriously. Wtf? Its my pick, and I said by November.

Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
I'm just saying that "she's 91" can certainly be beat! If I had to go with one, I'd go with Zsa Zsa Gabor. She's had part of her leg amputated which led to blood clot problems, she's broken her hip, she's been rushed to the hospital numerous times (most recently around Christmas to deal with an infection around her feeding tube), and her husband seems shady and eager to get control of her estate. She's so out of it she didn't realize she'd lost the leg until 18 months after the amputation (the arm on that side is paralyzed). Now that's a death pool candidate!

But is she YOUR death pool candidate? And by when?
I simply put betty white's age out there as a "let it be known." I'm not looking for the oldest celebrities, and I'm also not putting out why I believe she'll be dead by November. Just her age.

I doubt it will affect the show much, but I wouldn't be surprised if they incorporated it somehow.

Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
never watched Glee in fact if the news had not said who this guy was I would not even know he was famous.
That said, Hotel room+Famous+dead=Drugs or Suicide all too many times.

Not a household name, no. That doesn't make it any less tragic to die so young.

If it's a suicide or self inflicted overdose it certainly lessens and usually negates any tragedy. Letting people live how they want means letting them die how they want, too. If it's a random illness or heart attack or undiagnosed something or other that's a different story.

No... for most people it doesn't negate the tragedy. If you have your own fucked up opinions about suicide that is one thing but an accidental overdose is not really different from other accidental deaths.
-
Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
The feeling of sadness is subjective, true. However, I don't waste time pitying people when their choices have reasonably expected outcomes. I feel pity for the people around them, but not for them. There is no tragedy in someone dying by suicide, since the death was intentional. The person may or may not have been misguided in choosing death, but it was their choice to make. Similarly there is no tragedy in someone dying when taking serious risks like drugs, tightrope walking without a net, mountain climbing with no harness, etc. I get that some people enjoy the risk, and that's cool. It just prevents it from being a tragedy when they ultimately roll boxcars on that final roll of the dice. Honestly, in that type of situation if it was someone I knew I'd be more likely to lift a glass that they got to go out doing something they enjoyed.

Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
I have issues finding sympathy here because this guy dies and its some kind of big deal. Someone gets gunned down in philly and its barely a news item. In both cases a life ended before the person's sell by date, What makes someone from a popular network show worth more?

Do you have some sort of limited sympathy capacity?

Nope but I also do not give increased sympathy just because someone is famous.

Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
I think the increased sympathy comes from the circumstances. He was very popular with his castmates - there were never any rumours of diva-like behaviour. He was in a steady long-term relationship. He had recently gone to rehab again to try and make sure his life stayed on track (he first went when he was 19). People felt that they knew him, and they identified with him and liked him, and drugs still claimed his life even though he tried to fight it.

English comedy show - made by two of the guys the came to fame on "This is not the Nine o'clock news". Rowan Atkinson worked with them, just not on that particular show.
If was a regular broadcast here in Denmark through most of the 80s.

Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
Can we add George Zimmerman. I know he isn't really a celeb, but people who go through the kind of high profile case like he did often become "celebs" The stress of that, the guilt, the people who are out to get him, the civil trial, and the upcoming justice department probe...puts him at high risk. If he makes it past 2013 then he will be fine...but this first 6 months when he is still in the news cycle is precarious.

She used to be on my "list." You know, that one that your wife says, 'suuuuure, if ever you get the opportunity, you go right ahead.' Now, well, I have a feeling she'd make sure that woman knows nothing about our home, and that I get sterilized with bleach and isopropyl before she let me back in the house, let alone the bed.

What's wrong with doing that? If he has enough Home Alone money left to live a quiet life and doesn't feel the need to try to shove himself down the public's throat with a reality show or some bullshit, I say more power to him.

But whenever he is out in public, he seems to be a mess. That doesn't give the impression of a happy/healthy life.

Re: The Graffe's Celebrity Death Pool
He stars or supports a role in a movie about once or twice a year. He also dated mila kunis for 6 years. That's a fair excuse to die young after enjoying that.

I was under the impression that whole idea got scrapped, and they all opted that the video game was a smarter idea (they didn't have to lose weight, or make a story about their weight gains, etc).
Haven't played it yet, but it does remind me that I need to pick it up immediately.

REST IN PEACE: “Honeymooners” star Sheila MacRae has died at the age of 92.
