You act like Russia has to use its nukes. The point of mutally assured destruction is that it makes nuclear warfare an unattractive option, but it says a lot about the person that would actually go through with it, let alone be the one to use them first. Putin is either a bully trying to scare you into compliance or a monster underserving of the responsibility he has been given.
And no, their existence is not at stake. They aren't fighting for survival, they are fighting for power. They are jealous of the US and want to displace us. At least China actually has a shot; Putin is over here fantasizing about his glory days when he was the quaterback of his high school football team.
A regime is not a people. Russia and China both would be fine without their current leadership's lust for hegemony.

This is a weird situation. I mean, Silver has said some wildly crazy and incredibly insulting things about ukraine and Ukrainians. And just about none of it is rational - there are bits and pieces of reality, but nothing is actually connected in any sort of coherent manner.
So... I mean, do you get angry at your Uncle Lou who has Alzheimer's when he cusses you out because he thinks you are the guy that stole his girl back in high school (before you were actually born)?
Is the original person still "in there", or is this just who they are now? And do you blame them for becoming whatever they are now? Is it their fault?

I suppose it depends on your view of what/who a person really is, and how consciousness works. If I had a time machine and went back to show you these posts 5 years ago, would you have believed they were genuine, based on everything you knew up to that point?
I would like to believe that I am fully in control of my thoughts and everything I say is a product of who I am and what I believe as a person. But after a few personal experiences with people suffering from dementia, I have been forced to admit that at a certain point, people's brains essentially become random content generators - a twisted version of chatGPT. And that's without considering the evidence from the last few years that mass brainwashing through media sources is not just possible but actually shockingly effective.
Maybe I'm just trying too hard to find an explanation for what we're seeing here. And maybe there's nothing pathological at all underlying any of this and it's all a product of deliberate, conscious choices. I don't know.
And to your point, at a general level maybe it doesn't matter. I've really been trying to sort out my own thoughts on this topic recently, so if it seems as though I'm supporting or excusing it, that is not my intent. But seeing something similar happen enough times that it's a clear pattern makes you start asking questions about what's going on and why. And I don't like any of the possible answers I'm seeing, and what they imply about where we're going as a civilization over the next few decades.

Wow, I did not know you were Ukrainian. Are you 1st generation American or is it longer? It is amazing what they have managed to accomplish with far fewer resources in the past year. They certainly couldn't have done it without help, but they have been smart with how their resources have been applied.

Well Mr. War Criminal himself just paid a surprise visit to Mariupol, I have no doubts this was a direct reply to the fact that Biden visited Kyiv.
I suspect they had full and very very heavy security since there are disruption operations happening in occupied areas, damn imagine if even just one sniper could get a clear angle and bagged Putin.
