There doesn't seem to be a lot going on this month, with the new releases largely dominated by expansions and remakes to existing games.
The biggest new game this month is Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced. Assassin's Creed games are largely games about stealthing through ancient historical cities and assassinating targets, but this entry in the series had you instead play as a pirate. While it did still have the familiar AC gameplay, it also introduced a robust naval combat system that had fans pining for more for years. This is a remake of that game and seems to mostly just be focusing on bringing that game up to modern standards. Ubisoft has had a rough go of it, and to me this seems like their last big attempt to stay afloat. No pun intended.
This month we have another prominent remake of a game in a beloved franchise with Halo: Campaign Evolved. Halo is Microsoft's sci-fi shooter epic that helped define their Xbox brand for years, but after Bungie left to make Destiny it fell on increasingly hard times. It's worth noting that this is a remake of the first game, which feels very little like the rest of the games in the series, and I'll be curious to see if they preserve its design or try to change it. It's also worth pointing out that this is one of the last Xbox games that will be coming to PS5 (I believe), as new leadership has revoked the decision to port exclusives to other platforms.
The other big game we have this month is a Nintendo Switch 2 game: Splatoon raiders. Splatoon is a quirky multiplayer shooter for kids, in which the players shoot each other with squirt guns full of ink (essentially) and try to paint more of the game map with their color before time runs out. While it was designed as a competitive team vs team shooter, each game in the series has experimented with various solo or co-op game modes. This is the first game in the series to focus on these single player and co-op elements entirely, rather than being a pvp game.
Check the spoiler tag below for more, including various expansions for existing games, and feel free to share anything you think I missed.
Edit: Oh right, I forgot to say. Apparently Palworld leaves Early Access and is a full release this month. I haven't been following it so I don't know how significant it still is.
Spoiler for July releases:
