We had about 3 days where the https credentials were expired, and we have had at least 1, maybe 2 spammers posting unabated in the last month.
Who is running the board these days? Do they need assistance? Do users need to be promoted to moderator?

They're around.
It sounds like the outages have been because of "Meta and other companies training their AIs...They decided they don't care about robots.txt...".
At one point it killed our database process.
Can't speak to moderation, but administration is there.
Sorry, I'm still around although I've moved 1500 miles to a new house (in Portland) that has a list of projects that makes me wish I'd just built my house from scratch. Combined with health problems I haven't completed one of the projects I've planned which will migrate at least part of the backend to be hosted on my own compute cluster while I perform some intensive maintenance (OS upgrades and probably replacing vB with xenForo or something).
HTTPS was caught very quickly, but the problem is we had used Google Domains which got sold to SquareSpace. I had underestimated how awful SquareSpace was, and the certificate signing script unused previously stopped working
Performance problems: this server runs on the cheapest cluster option because that brings the price down to a point I don't care about paying for it every month, but this means it's easy for Meta to hammer it pretty extensively. While some of the upgrades I have planned will improve the backend, I'm not certain it will be enough for the AI bots scraping the site. If it isn't, I have a better option that will be available after I upgrade everything.
As soon as Merrick posted about it in Discord I nuked it. I would suggest that is the best way to reach me in short notice, as it looks like my notifications for posts in the admin forums are broken. I assume that won't be fixed until the upgrades happen as well, since the ways notifications happened on our current version isn't supported anymore (Thanks SquareSpace). This might have been the issue for the other moderators as well, I would assume so.
