Haha, I remember that area! I was always happy because it meant I was near the batwing vendor!
All I remember about Erudin was night time. I was blind in the dark. IIRC, there really wasn't a way to get a light source there either. I made the run to Freeport at about level 5 or 8. Took me all evening to get there and the first thing I did was spend every copper I had to get one of those globes (can't remember the name) that took a bag slot so I could at least see about 10 feet around me. This was back when NFP (on Mithaniel Marr) was the place to buy things from other players. No such thing as an auction house.

I remember nuking myself to illuminate the tunnel into surefall glade.
Erudin was ok in the Dark... Toxulla Forst was pitch black lol.
I was blessed to be an Elf. In fact I remember making an elf because at first I saw Erudite had the highest int. so I made one of those. then I got down the lift and out the tunnel and could not see a damn thing. did not know about gamma yet so I rerolled as a high elf and could see fine lol.
