Logic Problem

Rate this Entry
You are in the dark, and on the floor there are six shoes of three colors, and a heap of twenty-four socks, black and brown. How many socks and shoes must you take into the light to be certain that you have a matching pair of socks and a matching pair of shoes?

3 socks (assuming all the socks are of the same brand/type, just diff colors), and 4 shoes... 3 left shoes, 1 right shoe.

Thats correct. Since there are only two sock colors, getting three of them will mean that you have to have two matching ones. Shoes are only slightly more tricky in that you have to make sure to get three of one foot, plus the fourth.

I saw this, thought about it, but had no answer. Well done.

    Thanks

Heh, it's a good thing that the socks are all the same brand/type, otherwise it gets complicated, fast, lol.

It happened to be the random blog entry, so I decided to take it on, I didn't realize at the time that it was a tad old, sorry!
