The date didn't happen. I got a "let's be friends for now" letter that mostly cited her schedule making it impossible to have the dinner anytime soon. To her credit, she's not 100% wrong there. She's holding down 2 jobs (1 full time, 1 part time) and acting in 2 local community plays. Once the plays conclude in late October, she'll have about a week of relative freedom before schooling starts up again. To save everyone time reading, I'll condense this into {insert emo uncertainties and such here} and leave it at that. I genuinely like this girl so I'm gonna take another shot.

On the job/money front, I had my meeting with the store owner. Here comes the fun part. They're planning on selling the store. Soon. They are in negotiations with a couple who own one of the other stores in the chain (and whom I have a pretty good working relationship with) to purchase our location. He tells me (and I've since confirmed by talking to the other party) that they want to keep me on board when they buy. So the long and the short of it is I'll get paid the lump of what's owed when the store sells probably in October. Knowing the folks purchasing the store I won't have any difficulties with them either schedule or pay wise. Of course I made this agreement contingent on falling no further behind on pay, but the manager here is sorely testing my patience. He does love cutting checks late or asking me to hold them for a few days.

Mother Nature was kind enough to get most of the rain out of her system an hour before everyone showed up. We let the ladies choose the movie out of a stack of my DVDs, so we ended up with "The Muppets Take Manhattan", which I hadn't seen since anyone in the room had been born. It was fun.

So now I get to freak out a little about our first actual (solo) date. Working without a net is always fun! But I probably have at least the rest of this week to plan my evil plans. :ninja:

I held my fire on the big letter and had a sit-down with my immediate supervisor. My main scheduling gripes are, for now at least, addressed. I'm at least getting regular relief 2 or 3 nights a week and he's not so cavalier about cancelling or moving my day off without making sure it's okay with me.

Payroll is a different issue. Still bad. No effort to fix it. So I edited the letter to remove the things that were addressed and today I sent it out. I get out tomorrow at noon and the owner should get it shortly after that. I plan to be out of contact for the rest of the day so he'll have to stew on the contents overnight. I set a deadline on having a payment schedule ready of August 9, which is coincidentally enough the last day of my upcoming vacation week. If it isn't ready, I won't be back.

Other changes - gone on the first couple dates since breaking it off with my ex; an arranged thing with a friend of a friend. So things are interesting, if mildly angsty. I still feel a little creepy because there is a substantial (to me, at least) age difference. A couple of friends have told me it doesn't matter, but it's still not easy to shake. Tomorrow we're doing a kind of double date at my house...grilling, pool party and movies. Probably bad movies since we're probably relying mostly on what I have to hand.

Tomorrow could be really really good or really really bad. And I have to admit, the anticipation is killing me a little bit.

The blog addition to Graffes is pretty neat. It'll certainly give me a way to vent without clogging up the forums with my own bloggish work drama.

So after exploring my options on the back pay I'm owed (covered in my November rant, http://www.graffe.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54726), I've elected to put all my current grievances into a letter, including a summary of the outstanding wages, and send it certified to the owner and manager. This is actually the first step in the state of Maryland for legal action. I'm even going a little easier on them than I could by law...I could demand the full amount paid by a deadline (usually 10 days) and all I'm demanding is a fixed payment schedule and falling no further behind. If they fail to follow up, I'll have to get a lawyer as I seem to have three options. I can let the state take over and collect the wages. I can sue them in civil court. Or I can file criminal charges against them.

I'm also going after them on scheduling. I've referred to my schedule jokingly as "set in sand", but the fact is that it is the most ridiculous thing I've ever experienced. I've never had a job with no set schedule, no regular relief, no set days off. I get Sunday every week because the store is closed, but otherwise I've had as little as 10 hours notice when a day off is cancelled for NON-emergency reasons and they occasionally just get skipped. I don't have any legal recourse on this one, but I can (and will) walk away from the job if I have to.

Truly, I cannot adequately sum up my supervisor for you, except to express that he is probably the MOST self-centered person in existence today. Everything has to be framed in terms of how it will affect him. I'm hoping the realization that HE will be stuck in here all day every day if I leave will force him to concede more time.
