  1. Memory

    Loving life and wildflowers
hidden in forgotten, familiar landscape paintings

I see I dawdle under the canvas and
think how I would love to be a part

Little faces drawing dainty pictures faint with
    colors awash with muted hues

I paint I lift the veil to find the splendour
beneath is all my eye can fathom

Pine trees under starry skies and drenched
    with snow glistening like dewdrops

    Bring me back, ...

  2. Date update

Date/grill event went well. I did up a leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic and we all ate outside on the deck. Mother Nature was kind enough to get most of the rain out of her system an hour before everyone showed up. We let the ladies choose the movie out of a stack of my DVDs, so we ended up with "The Muppets Take Manhattan", which I hadn't seen since anyone in the room had been born. It was fun.

  3. Something new

Well, a couple months sure changes things.

I held my fire on the big letter and had a sit-down with my immediate supervisor. My main scheduling gripes are, for now at least, addressed. 4. Nice way to convert miles into kilometers

by , July 27th, 2008 at 06:16 PM (The Institution)
Each term in the Fibonacci sequence is derived by adding the two preceding terms:

    0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 …

Remarkably, you can use successive terms to convert miles to kilometers:

    8 miles ≈ 13 kilometers
    13 miles ≈ 21 kilometers

This works because the two units stand in the golden ratio (to within 0.5 percent).

  5. Walking brings mental as well as physical stimulation

I realized today just how much a person can miss when they drive their car everywhere. I could drive somewhere in ten minutes, but I only get ten minutes of hurried sights. The other option is to walk the distance leisurely taking almost an hour and I get sights, smells, and sounds. Not to mention, valuable exercise is gained.

Things I would have missed if I would have driven:

The man with a ZZ Top beard that was driving the blue Jeep lacking doors. There were American ...
