In a moment of spontaneous serendipitous memory, I remembered that I kept the laptop's box in the closet. So I dug it out, and in the midst of downloading drivers, found out that it actually has a hidden restore partition. WOOT! Less than 18 minutes later, Windows was up and running and waiting for me to go back through basic setup. Couldn't find the desktop stuff though. That can wait. For now.
